From: John Newman <n9jn@...> Sent: Tuesday, July 26, 2022 3:42 PM Subject: Statewide Exercise, September 24, 2022 - SAVE THE DATE All Northeast Texas Amateur Radio Operators, The Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) will be conducting a statewide exercise on Saturday, September 24. It will be coordinated by Texas State Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES). The purpose of the exercise is to determine locations throughout the state of those operators available to help with emergency communications during a major statewide event. Please note that operators DO NOT have to be associated with any entity to participate. The exercise is OPEN to all licensed operators and is supported by ARES organizations throughout the state. Data will be requested regarding certain facilities and services within a 2-mile radius of an operator's home. Exercise documents are available on the etecs.org website under "September 2022 Emcomm Exercise Information" on the main page. NOTE: for this exercise the internet is NOT available. The requested information will include the following data within the 2-mile radius: 1. School(s) - Number 2. Hospital(s) - Number 3. Power Plant(s) - Number 4. Water Treatment Plants(s) - Number 5. Storm Shelter(s) - Number The data will be collected by each State RACES region and forwarded to the State Operations Center (SOC) in Austin. Northeast Texas is considered Region 2 which includes TDEM (DPS) locations in Mt. Pleasant, Tyler and Lufkin. Operators wishing to provide exercise data are requested to do so on the various repeater systems throughout our area. We plan to RF link NESTx system (Lufkin Hub), ETECS system (Tyler Hub), and FLG system (Cusseta Hub) on Saturday, September 24 with a net control available starting at 0900 to accept operator data. Please call State Exercise Net Control with your information. The data collection will end at 1600 that day. In addition to the voice transmission, the exercise calls for transmission of this information via Winlink using the "check in form" found in the Templates section. Type in the requested data in the comment section and send to n9jn@.... Be sure to include your Lat/Lon in the check in form. It is recognized that many operators may not currently have Winlink capability or have issues with getting Winlink set up. To that end, Winlink training will be offered each Thursday evening at 1900 via Zoom. The Zoom training will begin Thursday, August 4th at 1900 and repeat each Thursday through September 15th. Also, there are links to Winlink training videos (Wavetalkers) available on etecs.org website should you want to get a head start. Click on "September 2022 Emcomm Exercise Information" on the main page. Here is the link to join the Zoom training on August 4th: Meeting ID: 652 157 7241 Passcode: 123456 Please provide wide distribution of this exercise notice to all clubs, organizations, and individual operators in your area. Remember operators do not have to be members of RACES or ARES to participate. Also, remember to mark your calendars now. It is desired that ALL operators in the Northeast Texas Region will participate. Thanks in advance for your participation. 73, John Newman, N9JN State RACES Regional Officer NTX ARES DEC9 |
