IBC and TWS 981
I've finally been forced by IB to bite the bullet and migrate to TWS 981.
I've been previously using IBController320 (aarghh) and older TWS. Richard - what a bummer! So if I don't want to be logged off if can 1 - Use IBC and Task Scheduler to log me off and on.? Kind of a pain, but one of the more important features of IBC was the ability to save my TWS settings at a specific time each day.? This saved my butt more times than I'd care to admit (accidentally delete a chart with tons of info on it, e.g.). 2 - Use the autostart feature of TWS. ???????? - Does TWS actually shut down and then auto-restart?? ???????? - If so, can I turn on autosave and essentially do what IBC did for me for a lot of years?? I just have to be careful if I manually shut down TWS to check if I want the setting saved. Is the above accurate? Be well, Lou Dudka |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have Auto save settings, Use/store settings on server, Save watchlists to cloud and Save market scanners to cloud all checked. It saves my settings on exit but I haven't stress-tested it to see if there are any gotchas. I have TWS set to restart at 5:15Pm Eastern time since all
markets I follow are closed at that time. It does what it says -
the program exits and re-starts and signs in automatically (no
entry of credentials needed). I seem to remember something about
requiring credentials on Sunday but I usually shut down for the
weekend so I don't know if it would auto-restart or not. On 8/20/2021 6:36 PM, Lou Dudka wrote:

Nick,
Thanks for the quick and complete reply!! Exactly what I was looking for - I'll try testing over the weekend.? The only thing IBC offered (that I had use for) was scheduled saves of TWS.? Using TWS autosave on logoff I'll have to remember to shut it off if I bring down TWS during day for some reason (such as deleting a chart, etc). A sad goodbye to IBC .... Richard - thanks so much (again ...)! Be well, Lou Dudka |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýLou ? It makes no difference to me whether you use IBC, but I think there are still advantages to using it. ? I never have to remember to log on even once a week, because the combination of IBC and Task Scheduler makes the whole thing completely 'hands-off'. And if you find the timed settings saving beneficial, all the more reason to stick with it. (The only thing I do have to remember is to login to the server that runs IBC after a restart, so that the scheduled task runs properly ¨C I could set the server up to autologin to that user, but this has security implications. And it's very rare that I have to restart the server ¨C usually only after some updates.) ? Mind you, the sooner people stop using IBC, the sooner I can stop having to support it!... ? By the way, where is this TWS 'autosave' setting? I'm not aware of it. ? Richard ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Lou Dudka

Hi Richard,
Thanks, as always, for your insights. "Auto save" , I think, is a bit of a misnomer - it used to be called something like "save on exit." It's in Edit->Global Conflagration -> Lock and Exit -> Exit Options -> Auto Save Settings I'm running an ancient Win7 laptop that's held together with baling wire and bandaids as my "server" and access it thru Remote Desktop.? It does a fine job and never bogs down.? I pretty much have to re-boot it weekly to keep it breathing, so the re-start of TWS on Sundays isn't too much of a hassle.? Added a cheap $50 SSD and it gave it amazing new life. Nick - I did some quick testing and yes, Auto Save did save everything.? I checked the time stamps on the files and they're spot on.? I shut down/start up at 5:22 PM each day, the same time I used to have IBC save my TWS settings. Be Well, Lou Dudka |
