This may be unrelated but I remember I stopped using all pricing info from TWS regarding open positions because they reported different numbers depending on what page you were looking at. Sometimes the displayed value was based on yesterday's close rather than today's last price.
Maybe the Gateway is giving sane answers as a side effect of not having the various TWS gui pages.
In the end I always calculate whatever I need from prices that I obtain directly, rather than use any calculated value from TWS.
Maybe not helpful for your situation but just thought I would pass this along.
