I agree with this and would add that it will take way more time and effort to implement your system with IB Api than it should.
There are numerous gotcha's and general wackiness that you will just have to discover and solve.
In the end you can accomplish pretty much anything you would expect a retail trading environment to do but it won't be a straight line from start to finish.
