Replacing water heater?

The water heater on our 1986 Sunrader does not work. We're considering replacing it with a tankless on demand water heater. Thoughts? Pros/cons? Experience? Image for fun! Thanks in advance to this great group!?

Yes, I have heard there are on-demand water heaters that are designed to fit in the same size space, but I don't know the specific brand.? Hopefully others here will chime in.? Be sure to get an RV-specific one.? The ones for houses need good ventilation, and can get too hot if installed in confined RV compartment.?

Warning if you boondock these can be a problem. A traditional water heater will self limit the shower time, these will let you use all your water in one grand glorious shower.

Also, "ones for houses" don't run on 12V DC.??

I replaced my old water heater with a newer model gas one from Suburban with a on/off switch that mounts inside the coach. very convenient. Seems to only take about 10 minutes to heat up all the way, (scalding), but will use some of your propane. That said, so would an on demand RV water heater.? I haven't noticed any inconvenience from that. As I remember it, I didn't have to make any new water connections from the old model. I think it just fit right in.
