MoHo Refers

This is our second Motor Home, our previous was a Class A, then and now, we simply put the refer on at the beginning of summer on "gas" and leave it on all the time.? After many experiences with hot/cold etc. we found this to work the best for us.? Oh yes, we do level the unit in the driveway, and leveling is the number one action as we pull into a camp site, as well.? -=dr=-

Hi Jacka, I'm gonna have to differ with ya, sorry. The 2 way refer is
designed to operate on propane or 110 volt, the 3 ways are made for
propane, 110 volt, and 12 volt. Like you said the 12volt is not very
effecient and a battery eater if the engine is shut off. They were
designed to cool down on either gas or 110 then when traveling the 12
volt was supposed to help maintain the temp until you were able to
plug back in or light the gas, it would help as long as you didn't
open the door too many times. Most people run on propane while
traveling then 110 volt while parked where you have 110 v access.
Theres some safety factors associated with running the propane while
driving but thats for the operator to decide :)

Nolan-

So what would you say was wrong if my refer was cold and freezer was freezing
while using propane and then once we plugged into the outlet after we were
plugged in at the campground, it defrosted and felt like it was off?? Power
works- we were watching TV.

Hi Nolan.

No need to differ, you just have a better Refer.

I have a "Dometic" as in Demonic I guess,(strange,
all these years I thought the company name was
"Domestic"). It's a model #RM 2190. This same box
is in my friend's Sunrader as well.

The manual calls the 2190 a "Dual operation by LP
gas or 12 volts". The manual goes on to state that
it draws 8 amps @ 12 volts DC and consumes 95 watts.
It further says, to "pre-cool the unit on gas, over-
night, before switching to 12 volts". Then there
is a couple of warnings about running down your
battery.

So, If any other list members are running this "Dual"
refer, act accordingly. If your unit has a true 110
volt AC input connection, (not 12 volts DC through
the converter) You can plug in and not run gas.

Cold food and luck to all.

I am not sure what mine is. I will have to check on that. I have a Dometic
also. RM 2300. If anyone out there has a manual on this refer I would be
interested in seeing it.
Thanks

freezes the vegtables if set too high ] when traveling on 12 volt . My refer

sabrina. Are you getting any heat inside the chimney part of the refer?
On mine it is on the right hand side of the unit when you lift the access
door. When running on gas, a fire burns in here to make it cold and on
110 volts or 12 volts it's a resistance heating element. If this area
dosen't get heated up you don't get cold food. Someone else can give you
the whole story on absorption refrigeration. I'm happy to just chalk it
up to magic. Jim

I will have to check on that- my husband told me the switch from gas to
electric said 12 volts, but it is plugged into an outlet in a cubby on the
outside (or so I thought), this weekend we will do some investigating and I
will let you all know what I find out. Thanks for the info.
