Gas fumes

We are smelling gas in the cab of our 87 Toyota Dolphin. No apparent leaks. Is there a ‘common’ cause? Something I should check?
?Thanks Ken?

Ken, Check your fuel lines, both the filler and the breather lines.? They come up from the tank through the floor and under the dinette seat behind the cab passenger side.? Mine breather line had chaffed on a clamp just below the floor and fumes entered the camper to the point I could smell it.? I had to replace the breather line.? I don't recall, but I think you can replace it with a 5/8" fuel line.? I also made sure that at attachment points, I wrapped the fuel line with rubber (I used the?old fuel line)? to prevent chaffing?in the future. I hope your issue is as simple as mine to resolve.

Hi Ken, it's funny I read your post a week ago And then moved my 85 Toyota dolphin to the back of my house and I smelled gas! So after looking at it I saw the pressure hose from the gas pump in the tank is leaking quite a bit while running. So I'm gonna have to drop the tank and replace the hose. I had The tank off before because the original tank had a leak in a seam and then the replacement tank I bought for it leaked at the spot welds at the bottom I had to do that again until finally I got a tank that was? good. If you're not seeing any dripping leaks it's more likely it's a breather hose or the fill hose that has a crack. Best of luck, Pete

Thanks for the help. Probably a spring project as winter is upon us in the northeast.

I determined it wasn't the pressure line from the pump it was evap line that had a crack in it was leaking gas out of it. Either way I had to drop the tank and repair it. I used a 4 ton bottle jack and some 8x8 blocks of wood to support the tank as I used electric impact to take off the nuts and return them in place. The top of the bolts that hold the tank front and rear have lobes on them to wedge against the metal bracket so you can tighten the nuts on the bolts without holding a wrench on the top which is convenient. The half inch impact I use is by Ryobi. Has a lot of power I've used it to take off lug nuts with no problem?
I would like to know if you were talking about liquid propane gas smell or a gasoline gas smell as you didn't specify it. Thanks
