Re: AC outlets no power
Doug, I had exactly the same experience and RV mechanic told me the same thing. On Wed, Apr 30, 2025, 12:59 PM wme013 via <wme=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Flywheel problem
I assume "notices" means noise.? ?If true about the 2 cm of movement of the flywheel .... that is more than a half inch !? ? I would not drive the RV another foot or even crank it until I had a mechanic at least look at it to confirm the diagnosis.? This kind of movement would require the bolts through the flywheel into the crankshaft to become loose and could wallow out the holes in the crank basically
destroying your engine until the crankshaft is replaced. Many thousands of dollars here.? Even if the crank is not deemed "destroyed"? the transmission must be removed to allow a re-torqeing of the flywheel bolts followed by reassembly. This would be costly though not as much as a rebuilt engine
or replacement.? ?It would be helpful if we knew the year and model of your RV unit.? ? I assume it is an older manual transmission model. |
Flywheel problem
Hello,?
?
During my last trip my moterhome started make notices, came from the gearbox area. I found out that there is play between the flywheel and the engine, I can turn the flywheel 2 cm without turning the engine. I tried this thru the inspection hole in the bellhouse.
Anyone heard off this before, and what can I expect after removing the gearbox..?

Re: AC outlets no power
Dave, where is tour ac power coming from?? Are you plugged into a household outlet?? An RV mechanic told me that it's okay to plu into a household outlet (probably 15-20 amps).? He said you can charge your batteries and use the lights this way, but do not use the outlets or air conditioner. Things will get glitchy.? He said only use the outlets and air conditioner when you are plugged into 30 amp service. On Wed, Apr 16, 2025, 1:28?PM Doug via <doug.fallin=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Brakes
Brakes and tires are a curious conundrum in that if you never use them in an extreme situation, the difference between The Good Stuff and The Merely Adequate Stuff is
mostly not relevant. However, when an extreme situation comes up, you may be glad you payed the extra money for The Good Stuff.
?
With respect to brakes, if the brakes are powerful enough to lock the wheels when you get on them hard, they are providing you all the braking any brand can
at any cost.
?
Where more expensive brands tend to create a difference is under conditions of sustained or repeated hard braking. The Good Stuff handles the
sustained high temperatures better than The Merely Adequate Stuff. Higher-priced brake parts may also last longer and/or have less tendency
to make noise and/or (in the case of rotors/drums) less tendency to warp, but those are secondary concerns.
?
My general philosophy in this area has been to buy parts with a reputable brand name (another poster cited Raybestos as an example) and
pick something indicated for "normal" driving or "heavy duty" if it's not dramatically more expensive. The truly high-end stuff tends to be useful
only to those in extreme situations (racing, frequent sustained downhill driving, etc.) and installing something that isn't labeled "Economy" hopefully
provides a higher safety margin than going the cheapest route possible.
?
As a real-world example, the last time I renewed my brakes on my daily driver Mazda, I splurged for drilled/slotted rotors and "ultra-high performance"
brake pads...and I've largely wasted my money. The brakes work fine (though the drilled/slotted rotors seem to create minor odd vibrations at times),
but I simply don't drive the car aggressively enough to realize the heat dissipation benefits compared to a "daily driver" set of brake parts.
?
You are free to choose your own cost/benefit analysis and go with what works for you.
?
Also note: You may want to buy your parts from a local brick-and-mortar store rather than online. Even with the most careful scrutiny of application
guides, sometimes you get the wrong parts. For example, I had a Nissan where the front pads for the Made-in-Japan model with ABS were different
than the brake pads for the Made-in-Tennessee model with ABS. Buying locally means you can bring in your old parts to check they match up
and/or easily return them if they're not correct.
?
Good luck,
?

Re: Brakes
I tend to buy the better pads, especially? those that come with clips. For a few bucks more, my rig and safety are worth it. Most importantly, make sure rotors aren't worn, grease the slide bolts, and clean all parts that are reused. I also like to flush the lines as I compress the calipers, replacing displaced fluid. Do a total job, the pads are only a minor part of the process On Fri, Apr 25, 2025, 8:04 PM Fred Kruitbosch via <freddk13=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Brakes
You do realize it must say for dual rear wheels. That said I like raysbestos and dynamic friction. Dynamic friction comes in several grades. Whatever you do just don't buy Centric. My rear shoes were machined wrong and didn't fit. They wouldn't take them back, said I was wrong. Owner of the company actually screamed at me on the phone and hung up on me. Bad company. Depends on how you drive too. Some people obviously use the brakes excessively. For most middle of the road cost is just fine

Brakes
What's everyone's opinion on quality of brake parts to buy. On Rock Auto I see rotors from $10 (wholesaler closeout) to $113. Daily driver, economy, fully coated, high performance. And a ton of choices. Do I just choose something in the middle, like I usually do, lol. Or because of the weight we carry, do I spend closer to the top? |
Re: Printing
Screenshot on a microsoft desktop: right click mouse on the edge of the screen. Drop down menu appears , click "Take Screenshot". A little face box appears , pull the face corners out to frame the text you want to copy, press copy then enter/paste onto a word page, and size to your liking. Screenshot on an android phone: enable in settings the bottom screen toolbar that includes a back button on the left and the screenshot button on the right. This will screenshot the entire visible page, you can't pick only the area you want. I don't know how it is done on apple macintosh? I phone, sorry |
Re: Printing
WIth a mac you choose command, shift and 4 at the same time. A small + with a circle in it will appear when you release the keys. Then you move the little marker on the screen with the trackpad down drag towards the diagonal corner until everything you want to screenshot is in the gray square. Then release. Then go to finder and it will show up in desktop. You can then drag that into your word doc. I don't know how to do it on a PC. You'd have to google.? Liz |

Re: AC outlets no power
While trouble shooting lost power to 3 AC outlets and refrigerator... using a voltmeter at the circuit breakers? which tested ok and do pass power out towards AC outlets...The wires behind ac/dc panel (under seat of Dinette whete traced to another ac outlet with a GFI which had tripped, pushed reset button and power returned to all ac outlets.... All these years I never new there is an AC outlet on the side of Dinette seat, It has been hidden by storage box on the floor under the table. |
Re: Printing, addition comment
I signed into the group using my laptop today (instead of my cell phone), and was able to find my way to FILES. And even though I do not have Microsoft WORD loaded, I was able to open and use 'Control P' to print the REPAIR AND REFURBISHING TASKS list! ... I hope this can help others who struggle with printing. This is such a great wealth of information, within this group...thank you all for your contributions!
?
I will be providing the list to anyone who works on our rig.? ? :-)?
