Re: Replace 3.0L with 3.4L engine, 1991 Winnebago Warrior V6
I can tell you for a fact you do need a new computer which you can find online used for $200 to $500. From a salvage yard they're 50 bucks from a Toyota T100 3.4 automatic but just about impossible to find.
Yes you need a new wiring harness which you can buy from toyonly or off-road solutions. Someone could manually modify a cable harness which I did but it took me several days and most mechanics wouldn't want to do that. I believe toyonly and off-road? solutions would have to include those in their quoted price for a swamp..? I get the feeling that your local shop that says they can do it has never done it before and don't really know what they're getting into. There are a lot of backyard mechanics like me that have done it themselves so it is possible. It was a common thing with 4runners but not so many have done it on on Toyota motorhomes. You can Google "Toyota 3.0L to 3.4L engine swap"and find a lot of info. |
Re: High intensity headlights for 1991 Winnebago Warrior toyhouse
I should also add that the 5000K color temperature which is a pretty pure White gives the best visibility. As you go down from 5000K things get "Warmer" or more yellow orange. As you go above 5000K things get "Cooler" or more Blue, even Purple. Old fashioned incandescent bulbs are more yellow. 5000K is where the best visibility is. Here is about "Color Temperature" although some headlight go as high as 9000K (purple) |
Re: High intensity headlights for 1991 Winnebago Warrior toyhouse
Hi Eric. I started using HID 55 watt bulbs in my 86 Toyota pickup, and then in my 86 Sunrader RD. They are 55 watt 5000K, I got them from DDM Tuning and they are currently around 55$ plus shipping. However you must also get a set of H6054 headlight bases that you insert the HID H4 bulbs into that fit your Toyota. I just pulled out my 3rd set of the entire system from my pickup, and my first set from the sunrader. They failed without warning. They were incredibly bright without oncoming traffic flashing me, but when they went, it was everything at once. So I popped in a set of DDM Tuning 35 Watt LED H4 lamps and they are bright, but the light is scattered and the high beams go way too high in the sky. So now I am going to the Sylvania XZE H4? also known as a 9003 bulbHalogen bulb, which they claim is the closest thing to an HID Best price I found was at Ebay +/- 35$ a pair. The cool thing about having the Headlight lens assembly that I got for the H4 HIDs is that it will take ANY H4 bulb, LED, HID, Halogen, Conventional. I don't trust the HID systems not to catastrophically fail anymore, could be the brand? But I can tell you that the HID system is pretty complex, with a lot of components to wire up and find a place for. You really can't connect anything wrong because the connectors are all different, but its way more complex than just replacing your normal headlight bulbs. Good Luck! |

The above is from last June.? I've been out on a couple of trips to the Southeast in my toyhouse (and all went reasonably well) so now I'm revisiting this engine swap discussion before I put the toyhouse to bed for the winter.? A total of 5000 miles in two trips since May, limited to around 60 MPH max, was a bit of a struggle although there were no problems. There is a new auto maintenance shop in town (southern New Hampshire) called Auto Care Plus that says they can do the swap (but of course I'm not ready to take their word for that just yet).? Its the newest in a chain of Auto Care Plus locations all around New Hampshire and Maine, total of 10 locations, so at least it's not some fly-by-night operation and the other locations have some pretty good reviews.?? John, you relayed the quote you received of $5000 (for the auto transmission version) then below that you showed an itemized list with prices for all the work needed.? Are those itemized prices in addition to the $5K?? It seems really low if $5K is intended to be all inclusive (plus or minus the options mentioned). I'm told that a new wiring harness and a new computer will be needed, which isn't on your list.? When I spoke with the manager at Auto Care Plus today, he mentioned some concern about finding those.? So if they really are needed, any idea where I can find them? Eric in NH |
Re: High intensity headlights for 1991 Winnebago Warrior toyhouse
开云体育I use the Hella h4 upgrade headlights in my toyhouse they work great.? ? ? The problem with the cheaper hid lights, is they spray light every where. The light reflector housing are poor quality and don’t direct the light properly (blind other drivers).? |
High intensity headlights for 1991 Winnebago Warrior toyhouse
I could use a bit more headlight intensity when driving my toyhouse at night.? Anyone have any results they can report on LED or other HID headlights, along with a good place to get them?? I've seen prices from $40 to $400, not looking to get ridiculous with this.
Thanks... Eric in NH |
Re: Suspension Woes ....
My air bags were old and leaking, so I removed them. My old bags were mounted in front of the axle between the leaf and frame. I'm not sure this is SOP. I'm thinking of installing air lift bags and have read the install instructions. For anyone who DIY'ed the project, 2 questions. How hard is it to remove the u-bolts holding the axle to the leaf springs? Do you need a 90 degree drill to secure the upper bracket to the frame? Otherwise, if you paid someone to do the install, how much did they charge ( not for the equipment, just the labor)? Re: Vent Cap
Quick update:? I never found the lost cap, or a true replacement. The one from Home Depot was super cheap, flimsy plastic, with wrong tabs. I did order one of the spring-loaded cap replacements from Amazon, and am very surprised at how well it seems to be holding -- the metal "springs" are really strong. If that one pops off, I'll put on my tough gal boots and replace the entire thing with one of the fancy siphon vents. Thanks for all the help! Sue

Re: Propane tank gauge reads low doesn't accept propane? AND entry step rusting.
One time my tank wouldn't accept propane from one vendor so I went to another vendor and same problem. Second vendor said he'd seen this problem before and took a wood mallet and gave the side of the valve where the vendors hose connected a couple good raps and then it was okay. I never had that problem again.

Re: Propane tank gauge reads low doesn't accept propane? AND entry step rusting.
Please post a picture of the gauge so we see what you're dealing with. There is a float valve in the tank that shuts off propane fill, perhaps the gauge is broken and your tank is nearly full even though the gauge says otherwise.? Aaron from Colorado? |
