Re: KrooBritt, Auto Trans.

Hello All:Kroo. Take your unit to a locally recomended, private trans shop or your Toyota dealer. (Do not take to a "chain" trans shop.) Have them change the fluid and replace the filter. Also have them check out the electrical circuit to the OD. Then drive it and see if you got lucky. If not, you may be in for a major expense. Yours makes 3rd auto trans failure on this list. All of them , so far, have occured shortly after purchase and driven just a few miles. Whats going on here? Kroo, please keep the list informed as to the outcome of your problem. If this is a trend, we need to alert newcomers so that they can be on guard when buying a used Toyota Mho with an auto trans. More on this later. (Are previous owners covering up major trans failures, then patching them up and selling the units to an unsuspecting buyer?) Good luck. Jack A2 86 Sunrader,22Re,20ft,auto trans. |
Same Transmission problem
Hello,
The Tranny in my auto/od 1987 Dolphin has been rebuilt twice. First one at 25,000 miles and the 2nd at 43,000. My mechanic also said the torque converter failed both times. I bought my dolphin in Sept. w/ 41,600. My first reaction was to sell but I quickly moved pass the idea. I hope you decided to hang in there. Tucker |
Travel Fan??
Hello...we have lots of questions tonight.....(look at my 3 previous
posts)...:) My wife sleeps with a fan every night and we are wondering what would be the best way to do this? A battery operated fan? (would we go through tons of batteries?) A 12v fan that plugs into the cigarette lighter?? (battery drain overnight?) Any suggestions, Owen & Amy |

What is the name of the shop that is doing the "rebuild" on your torque converter. What does your Trans man say about Toyota auto trans? Does he see many in his shop? Ask him why he thinks the previous rebuild failed. This makes three auto trans failures just on our list. Is there a trend here? Jack A2 |

Power Converter Question
Hello Again,
We have a cable outlet, 12v outlet and a 110v outlet located very close to each other in our MH. How can we use the 110v without plugging in at a campsite?? I have heard of something called a power converter but I am concerned that it may put undue stress on the alternator.... Also, how big a unit should I get?? I understand that it depends on what I will be plugging in, but is there a common size?? Again, any help is appreciated, Owen & Amy |
Baby Seat Safety
Hello All,
We have a 21'ft Granville with a couch that runs along the side directly behind the drivers seat and a captain's chair behind the passenger's seat. There are instructions on the captain's chair that say "Do not occupy this seat when the RV is in motion" and yet there is a safety belt....??? Does anybody know if it is safe to put a baby in a baby's seat and attach it to the couch while we drive the RV?? Thanks in advance, Owen & Amy |

Hi Everybody, hope the good weather has made you anxious to
get the RV out and hit the road. I had mine out yesterday for a while. I saw this ad in the Orange County Register here in Southern California: 1986 Toyota Odyssey 21' 22RE eng., auto, roof AC, gen, awning, 3 way frig, 39K mi, very clean! $7,500 (714) 282-0499. I thought I would post it in case you or any of your friends are looking. This one sounds pretty good with only 39,000 miles. Jack R. |
automtic tranny failure
Ed,
I can understand you fear and frustration. I can't recall if you have a 4 cylinder or the V6. I stayed away from the automatics when I was searching for my Toyota. Some of the reasons included mileage, dependablity, and cost of repairs (alot cheaper to replace clutch). I was also concerned about how they would hold up to pulling that much weight. Did your automatic have an extra tranny cooler? It does make me concerned about the mileage life of the automtics. I am sure many of our members our very satisfied with their automatics and I don't have any complaints. I have never owned an automatic of any kind, so I'm not an expert. I just prefer my 5 speed, the only time I wouldn't mind an automatic is in traffic jams! Best of Luck in whatever you decide Ed. Nate |
Update to transmission failure
Ed Flaherty
I'm told by the transmission shop that the torque converter "blew
up". Also that the transmission had been out before and the torque converter had been replaced. The transmission is being rebuilt as I post this. At this point I am tending toward selling this machine as soon as it comes off the lift. Only 41000 miles and TWO transmission rebuilds??? |
Re: air compressor fro 79 to 83
Benton
I looked high and low and fiunally found a good replacement Air compressor
for my 1979 Sunrader, Only problem is that after purchasing and shipping I discovered my compressor is a add on and this factory one would not fit. So I have a factory compressor that will fit from 79 to 83. If anyone wants it you can have it for what it cost me $120.00...From what I am told, this is quite a steal. Benton |

I have had my toyota 88 Itasca for 11 years now
and the only things needed, were 1, altinater, tires, brakes, thats it, If you get ONE get it in good condition and keep it that way by Maint, it regularly. Also, the rear brakes on the true one ton require a removal of the whole axel to replace. I am going to post some of the best free camp sites in Calif. as they are very nice and free too. All along the eastern sierra, Kennedy Meadows, and all along the road to sherman pass threw the dome land wildernes. More later. Scott S Cal. LA |

Subject: [toyota-campers] Re: alternator problems? I'm stumped The other day I started my 79 sunrader and I noticed that the alternator light was on, my gas gauge , temp gauge, and fan were also not working. about five minutes into driving all the sudden everything started back working ....This happened about three days later almost exactly as the first........The last two days the same problem, but the light never went off and the fan, and gauges never started working again....The strange thing is I do not think it is the alternator. I took the cables off the battery and the truck runs fine. My headlights were strong....I have checked my fuses under my dash and all are ok... I am plain stumped Benton To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: toyota-campers-unsubscribe@... Your use of Yahoo! Groups is subject to |

New member and owner of a 1987 Toyota 21' micro mini
Hello All:
I just joined and also am the new owner of a 1987 Toyota 21'. It has the 22R-E 4 cylinder and auto transmission. Perhaps someone can help me? Here's my problem. When I start driving, the transmission will not shift to the next gear untill I'm going 32-34 mph, at this point the RPMs are quite high. Even if I am on flat ground and let off the gas at 25-31 mph, it will not upshift. After it shifts, and I get to around 50 mph, when I push the Over Drive button "on" -it doesn't upshift, and I can feel no improvement at all. Also, when I take it "off" OD it doesn't downshift. I'm open to any good advice. Thanks KrooBritt |
