Re: Seeking Gran Sport or Sandtana

FYI the Sandtana I had did not have foolies, nor do I think it ever did before I got it. Some of the paperwork that came with the RV even showed pics of the Sandtana with single rear tires.

The total vehicle weight on these is less than 3,500 lbs. Quite a few owners, myself included, went with unbolted outside rears to take off the extra stress that an outside wheel and tire put on the axle.?

I read 20 years ago that only 1,600 Sandtanas were ever made. About eight per week. Not many of those are still on the road.

Re: Seeking Gran Sport or Sandtana

Ooops. Repeated myself. Forgot I had already cited total numbers made in this thread in this group.

Maybe I'll luck into a garage find.

Re: Seeking Gran Sport or Sandtana

I'm specifically seeking a tilt-top Gran Sport or Sandtana. Could we please not hijack this thread with offers and discussions of other makes, no matter how nice they are. (That IS a nice-looking Sunrader, Helen.)

I am very seriously searching and have about six weeks open right now in which I could be free to go look if a promising one shows up in the Southwest.

There weren't that many made. I read somewhere 20 years ago that only 1,600 Sandtanas were made between 1982 and 1985. Am sure far far fewer Gran Sports were assembled during its run,? '84-'85.

Re: Seeking Gran Sport or Sandtana

thanks, looks really nice. Does it have the Full Floater rear axle, 6 lug dallies?

Thing about selling

I am thinking about selling my 1987 Toyota dolphin in California. I found one close by a different layout but says the same year, for 14k.?
How do would you price yours out??
Everything works. I also have solar. No AC or water heater though. 80k miles. I am unfortunately not using it like I wanted.?

Julia, did your brake problems get resolved? If so what fixed them??
thanks for the info

Re: 1986 Nissan D21 Hardbody Sunrader - intermittent Cold NO START - Fuel Feeding Problem?

I saw Julia recently and had a chance to check her rv out. I have checked codes and found a 24 and a 31 which resolve to 25 = throttle valve switch (tps) and 31=? ECM. I found a very loose ECM case ground wire, which had noticable electrolysis corrosion. That suggested that at some points there was power flowing via this bad connection. I also found A new TPS sensor at the throttle valve. So looks like old codes were not cleared and the tps sensor was replaced. The ECM code is most likely the new code.

The empirical data is that 1. she was getting firing when using starter fluid, 2. She was not starting when both cold ( most common) and when hot., 3. This is only a starting problem, 4. Very intermittent, and lastly,? 5. it runs perfectly with good condition ignition components...when it starts.

I repaired the bad ecm ground.?

The data suggests that it is a fuel problem. Because this is a centralized injector, most likely issue is a ecm failure to call for injection. Also possible is a wiring or other fault in fuel system. Because we had a ground fault in ecm case and knowing the inconsistencies of body grounds on old, rusting, and consistantly shaken vehicles, I concluded at this point that it is 30% probability that the loose ecm ground was the issue...and called it done. Until the next episode, if there is one, proves otherwise ?. The occurance inconsistencies make it unlikely to be common issues.

Julia, I hope it keeps starting well for you. But let us know when the next no start occurs

No that's the filter location on a 720. Hers is a D21. Don't think a clogged filter has anything to do with it or it would start with starter fluid. Most likely a sensor and a bad sensor will throw a code. Have the codes checked please

Re: 1986 Nissan D21 Hardbody Sunrader - intermittent Cold NO START - Fuel Feeding Problem?

I had that happen on a class A rv we owned, the relay that operated the "in tank" fuel pump (to boost the fuel to the engine mounted mechanical fuel pump) was not working.

Re: 1986 Nissan D21 Hardbody Sunrader - intermittent Cold NO START - Fuel Feeding Problem?

It could be your fuel filter is clogged up. It is located under the right side of the truck just aft of the door. You can get to it without jacking up the car. You just unscrew the filter bowl and rinse out the dirt. Gas will run out when you remove the filter bowl so you should put a bowl or a bucket to catch the gas. I had one of those trucks for a long time, a good machine. Good luck I hope this helps . ?Jeff Cardinal

Re: 1986 Nissan D21 Hardbody Sunrader - intermittent Cold NO START - Fuel Feeding Problem?

All Nissan Sunraders built after 1986 had the VG30 engine and all of them were 18 footers. There's one parked in my yard. Even so I have no idea what's causing her problems. Someone said the codes can't be read because it's not OBD. Not true. You count flashes just like most pre OBD vehicles. Strange thing about this Nissan is you count the flashes right off the computer which is under the passenger seat. There are instructions online

also a lttle bumping of the tank could get it to go for a bit

sorry. should have included d21? ? ?any how,? if there is a long funnel available, put it in the filler neck and have someone turn the key to on while listening at the funnel. if the pump and circuit are good you will hear the pump run.? ?if it does, i'd be looking at a filter
