Toy Power

Nolan

Hi Dick,
You can get more power out of the little 4 cyl without doing a
major overhaul. Theres a fair selection of hopup parts available from
different sources. Headers, cams, carburation setups, ignition, ect.
The usual setup most go for is header and carb swap, the toyota 20
and 22R benifits alot from a cam change, performance ignitions help a
small bit, even an electric fan in place of the belt driven fan will
free up some usable HP. If your dealing with an EFI rig there are
aftermarket parts for them also, computer chips, bigger throttle
bodies, headers, computer cams, high flow injectors, ect. I have done
some major changes on my Chinook with good results and never hurt the
fuel mileage any, I get a consistent 19+ with 4WD and 31" tires.
The worst part of hopping up the toyota is the price of parts, not
that many manufacturers so the price stays up in the higher range.
