Re: 22RE lost water,antifreeze

The chain is fine. I had it checked before. I'm hoping it's a hose that's leaking. It might be the original hoses from 87.The oil is fine and it only has 55K miles so I think the head gasket is fine. It idles nicely and I only drove it maybe 6 miles altogether. Thanks for your response.

Another possibility (if you're super unlucky and/or neglectful) is the timing chain on the 22RE
engine will stretch, rattle, and chew threw the front of the block into the water jacket.
?
Usually this catastrophic failure occurs at very high miles (150k+) and only after the
owner has spent months ignoring the horrible noise the chain makes as it slaps around
inside the timing cover.
?
Otherwise, start with the basics. Have a mechanic pressure-test the system and see where the
coolant comes out. If there are no visible leaks, then something like a blown head gasket is
the most likely scenario.

Good luck,
