Hello all,

Well Amy and I are getting ready for our trip and I just finished
changing the radiator hoses & clamps. I had to buy an upper
radiator
hose from the dealership ($16) because the one I bought from
Murray's
was not quite correct. I had to bend it too much to make it fit,
and
that made me feel uncomfortable with it holding up in the mountains.

I also removed the thermostat and am replacing it with a 180 degree
one. I have done this many times on other vehicles but I have found
something new on my Toyota. There is no paper-like material gasket
between the thermostat housing where it attaches to the engine. But
there is a rubber seal that goes around the thermostat itself. Do I
need to put any sealant between the thermostat housing and the
engine?? It looks like a very neat way to seal it up (the rubber
seal
I mean) but I have never seen it done this way. Any help.....

See ya on the road,

Owen.

Stop. Use only the Toyota OEM thermostat from the dealer.

Yes, the thermo is sealed with blue RTV.

Get the Chiltons manual #70-88 (8578) before you do anything
more on your machine. (Don't buy the Haynes.).

The electronic system on board is an OBd1 and both the engine
and Trans (if auto) depend upon temp sensor readings to deliver
top performance. Don't use the wrong themostat.
