NOISE GENERATOR for the HOME BREWERS 6
The best ever ham radio publication, Ham Radio, once published a relatively simple project: a "Gated Noise Source". I built and extensively used one from MF, HF, VHF, UHF, and through 1296. Search the Ham Radio archives and you'll locate it. If you don't want the "gating" function, its even simpler. HINT: Low voltage Zeners biassed just as the break into conduction produce the most noise. You can select them using an o'scope of sufficient BW. Or, better yet, your TinySA! Be sure to decouple the bias from the SA. Dave - W?LEV

Wideband spurious signal? 6
Hello, i'm investigating the upper frequency ranges of the tiny SA ZS-407 and i've found three very strong wideband signal around 8.56 GHz that i find odd and i'm not quite sure they are really there. When spur removal is on or auto, the signal is attenuated as seen here: If i disable the spur removal, the signal is much stronger: There is some static signal in the waterfall seen (left to the center), that i think is now a spurious signal. Reducing the RBW keeps the signal, but still shows the spur signal: Any insights on whether this is an artifact or a real external signal would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Kevin

USB connection to TinySA fails using QtTinySA on Pi 2
I'm trying to use a Pi 4B to view/control TinySA. I've sucessfully installed QtTinySA on a clean image and it works just fine with a TinySA Ultra+ I've had a TinySA in my bag as a "don't leave home without it" device for a few years and tried connecting it instead of the Ultra. I can see it if I run lsusb so there is a connection, but it is not recognised by QtTinySA It does connect to a Win PC and i have updated it to 1.4.175 I've reread the QtTinySA Wiki and I can't see any reference that it only supports Ultra. Am I missing something obvious? I'm keen to see if I can develop into a remote access Spectrum Monitoring device. We have a fleet of them based on other hardware. Any help appreciated. Cheers Peter

PC Control of Sweep Accuracy Features
I am using Tinysa over USB to Ethernet solutions, and QTTinySA I was wondering if TinySA could allow the Sweep Accuracy Features to be changed via PC control, currently I am loading a profile before the device is used in a remote mode, but would love to be able to change these remotely. - Normal/Precise/Fast/Noise (Selection Box) - NSpeedup - WSpeedup

#tinysa #ultra Leveling TinySA Ultra with damaged LNA 20 #tinysa #ultra
I damaged my LNA, and now can't finish leveling process. Is there any way to bypass LNA-related stuff, while i am waiting for IC's to arrive? Maybe desoldering it and bypassing would be benificial?

No pulse on CAL when freq sweeping on signal generator 7 #tinysa #ultra
Hi, I wonder if I'm doing something wrong or my TinySA is misbehaving. I want to use TinySA Ultra to align IF transformers by visualising the freq attenuation (bode plot) on an oscilloscope. https://youtu.be/QQQOZm3uhZk However, the TinySA Ultra does not seem to output the sweep pulse on Cal output. I did checked the Pulse High option. Below are pictures with scope output and TinySA settings. Can anyone give me a clue?

Turn off display 11
Hi, Is there a way in current FW to disable the screen (until for example user touches the screen)? I had a quick search in github and from group messages but could not find the answer. For context: I'm using TinySA in "headless mode" by controlling it via serial and was wondering if I could save some precious mAh by turning off the screen. All the best, Stas

Hunting Spurious Emission at 154 MHz 8
I was exploring the VHF High public service bands (150 - 162 MHz) on my tinySA spectrum analyzer using the waterfall display. I noticed a very strong, very narrow, very clean unmodulated FM carrier at exactly 154MHz. I noticed the strength varied as I moved around the house but I could not locate a source on the end of the house with the strongest signal. So I swapped to a small rubber ducky antenna on the tinySA and headed outside. The emission was clearly coming from a neighbor's house. Neighbor is a great guy so I knocked and we went looking for the source and suspected an older Windows PC desktop. He shut it down and the emission went away. Likely a failed filtering capacitor or choke in the switching power supply. Don't know if he'll bother to fix or replace it, but I had fun hunting it down. I didn't think of it at the time but I may have been seeing a harmonic and probably should have checked 38.5 MHz using the tinySA MEASURE/HARMONIC tool as that is a more likely frequency from a failing switching power supply. Maybe next time he boots the PC... Peter

What accessories do I need for a TinySA Ultra? 47
I'm new here and new to my TinySA Ultra and NanoVNA. Trying to keep it affordable, I'm just trying to figure out what accessories I should buy first and which ones I should still buy but can wait until later. What attenuators should I get first? I have an assortment of connectors/adapters and I have these two attenuators, https://a.co/d/bFnpBAT, https://a.co/d/b4JeLwu . And a 15w 0-500Mhz Dummy Load https://a.co/d/8fGnqdi Is there anything I should buy to protect the SMA connectors with adapters on the TInySA like some people have mentioned? And do I need anything for the antenna? Someone mentioned a DC blocker like this, https://a.co/d/aHC3juo Is there an upgraded antenna worth buying? I'd like to have a second one on hand as backup anyway. I'm wanting to test out some Ham radio handhelds and my mobile Anytone AT-778UV Ham Radio. They are UHF/VHF. And then I'd also like to test out some CB radios. I've been reading mixed reviews on everything so I figured I'd ask here before I started ordering things I don't need or end up ordering the wrong things. Thanks for the help.

Banggood, is tinysa.org updated? 10
According to tinysa.org banggood removed tinysa trademark and now is selling only clones. But now, there is only one option for tinysa different models to buy and all of them has tinysa trademark and even says made by zeenko and erik. I have asked seller a he replied that he sells only genuine, not clone.

Auto Save Issues 16
I want to take continuous trace data every 500 ms. I go to level -> trigger -> and turn on auto save and set the interval to 500 ms. I believe this should give me what I want. However I do NOT get a new save every 500 ms. I get a new save about every 30 seconds. Why is this? What settings should I change? Thanks,

Level Cal -> signal level incorrect (only sometimes) 3
Hi there! I recently bought an ZS-407 (HW 0.5.4, FW -197) from Eleshop and just wanted to ask if it is a non-issue when the Self-Test is fine, but the "Level Cal" says "Signal Level Incorrect" (-> but only sometimes). It does that like 1 in 7 Cals. It does not seem to matter which cable(s) I use. Example see picture please And many thanks in advance for some insight :) Regards, Seb.

clone or not? 5
Hello, I bought a TinySA from the secure seller Eleshop B.V. Nevertheless, I am not so sure that it is an original. The following points: Switching on only works by toggling the power switch and when USB is connected it usually does not work. Even after updating the firmware, the firmware release date shows an old date, even if the firmware is actually up to date. Yesterday I had problems with the self tests. It could also have been due to the battery level which I unfortunately did not check and this morning after it has charged overnight the self test works again. Yesterday self test 1 did not work at first, later 1+2 and then later 1-4 did not work.

Signal generator level 6
Is there any future plan to drop the minimum signal level output available below -115 dbm? This would be more useful for receiver sensitivity testing since most radios levels are around -117 dbm to -118 dbm. Locked Spur signals above 2.75 GHz? 11
Hi. I purchased the SeeSii TinySA Ultra+ ZS406 from Amazon last week. I'm really impressed with its design. It is a wonderful piece of hardware. I updated the firmware to the latest version, ran self test and calibration. Everything was fine... However, when I scanned the radio frequency range from 100 kHz to 5.5 GHz with the supplied antenna, I found some suspicious patterns on the traces and waterfall. It seems that some signals above 2.75 GHz look like copies of the signals from the lower band. Are they spurious signals? Is there any way to fix it? Or is it a problem with my device? Any idea? The next two screenshots below were taken during separate scans within 1.8-2.8 GHz and 4.0-5.0 GHz screen ranges: The weaker signals around 2.4 GHz are from my router, I think, and the stronger yellow pattern corresponds to the 1.5 minute time interval when the microwave was on. So it looks like false signals above 2.75 GHz to me. Does anyone have a similar problem?

Black Screen after Update still able to connect 8
Hi All Hopefully someone can help aim me in the right direction. I updated my ultra with the latest code using STMCube. It appeared to update correctly but after rebooting I am no longer getting any display. I tried one suggestion of erasing then reflashing along with verification but no difference. The date on my unit shows Feb 24 mfr date and was supposed to have come from Zeetex(?) . Was there a hardware update or change so I need a different bin? Does this prove it was a fake clone? Any suggestions? Dave

TinySA Ultra Sig-gen output level 4
Hi Yesterday I tried using the sig gen function of my TinySA Ultra. I notice that the output level is not -18.5 dBm but instead it is around -50 dBm. I tried the various setting options but all to no avail. Perhaps I am making a mistake somewhere. The spec analyser function is working very well. However, I have not done any calibration yet. Any comments & advice are most welcome. Dieter VK3FFB
