TinySA Ultra frozen, now unfrozen

I was scanning the GMRS frequencies (462.5625 through 462.7250 Mhz) for a few minutes using the provided antenna, when my screen locked up.
?
  1. Tried restarting device.? Got the "Starting up..." and then the scanning screen but it froze before taking any readings.
  2. Tried removing the SD card.
  3. Tried holding down the toggle while rebooting.
  4. Tried disconnecting, waiting a long while, and reconnecting the battery.
  5. Tried running off of only USB power.
  6. Tried disconnecting and reconnecting the screen ribbon cable.
  7. Tried connecting via serial.? Doing this seems to have gotten it unfrozen.? I have no idea why.? Was using PuTTY on Windows.? But I think it got unfrozen before I actually connected to the COM port (cannot be sure).
  8. Performed `clearconfig 1234`
  9. Performed `reset`
?
Why did this happen?
Why did connecting to serial "fix" it?

With battery and USB disconnected and toggle pushed to the side the tinySA starts a new life so I have no clue what happened.
