Firmware Update Question
开云体育
The site at TinySA.org is quite helpful. But I am having problems updating the Firmware.
It directs me to st.com to download DfuSe Tools. However, when I get there, all I see is
STSW-STM32080 and no mention of DfuSe Tools ???
Am I to concur that the STSW file contains the DfuSe Tools ??
Also, still trying to register on that site to download that file.

Finally got to download the STSW zip file, but do not see anything labelled
DfuSe Tools. There is a DfuSe Demo, is that it ??
Excuse my paranoia, but I have been burned in the past with label issues.

Dick?
Yes, you should download and install? STSW-STM32080If you are on windows you can also update with the dfu-util-static.exe program (if you have the right drivers installed)? you can find here:?DFU_LOAD_BIN.bat contains an example how to use There is also a manual of dfu-util available ATTENTION:? dfu-util uses the tinySA.bin file i.s.o. the dfu file The big advantage of downloading and installing the SW from st.com is that it contains also the drivers that may be needed for dfu mode. |

Thanks for the guidance. Got the Firmware updated and it still works.
Major accomplishment for the day.

I'm clearly missing something.? I used the update files pointed to in this thread with the DfuSE Demo (V3.0.6) and all _seemed_ to go well, erasing, writing and verifying, but after a power cycle reset, the version still read V1.0-39 unlike the file name of V1.0-59.? I _think_ I've read all of the update procedure and the ST Micro tool doc, so now I'm unsure what else to try.
Note that I just received my tinySA today from AliExpress.? About 30 days transit time and it arrived in great packaging and perfect shape. Thanks in advance, Brent, AB1LF |

Make sure you are pushing the FW _to_ the device and not reading the device.? There are two functions of DfuSe. Make sure you click on the UPGRADE button, not the Upload, which reads the device's FW.? If you used Upload, you've overwritten the new FW file. Delete it and replace it with a new copy then flash again using UPGRADE this time.? ... Larry

And folks wonder why I am paranoid ....
The firmware I thought I did turns out not to be the case.
I followed the steps in the Wiki, which BTW, makes no mention of Upload vs Upgrade,
and now see I still have the old version.
Where is it written the proper way to upgrade the Firmware ??

Thank you Larry.? That was exactly the problem.? My thinking was backwards from ST's.? The first time I used the utility, I mistakenly used "upload".? Once I refreshed the .dfu file from Erik's site and "upgraded", all went well.

Please download this Nanovna user guide and refer to the firmware flashing section, using DfuSe.? Both devices program exactly the same way.? Also, delete the FW update file as it now contains a backup of your device's flash.? Download and use a fresh FW update file.? ... Larry

Hi Dick, ? ? Larry thanks for referencing the user guide link.? The NanoVNA is so prevalent that we sometimes forget that not every new user is familiar with its firmware update procedure and can apply that to the tinySA.? In Dick's case, I believe he owns a NanoVNA-F which has a different update procedure than the original NanoVNA. ? Your link, and warning to delete and refresh the FW update file if the wrong procedure was followed, deserve either a FAQ entry or entry in the Firmware Update wiki. - Herb |

Thank you, that worked.
I was not aware that the update procedure was similar to that used on the NanoNVA, in fact,
in all my traversing the various websites, nowhere was that mentioned.
I suggest that Wiki (or whatever it is) on TinySA.org be re-written or trashed. It's minefields
like these that make it a real pain to enjoy these new toys.
As far as the VNA goes, I settled on the NanoVNA-H4. I like the screen size.
Thanks for the help,

Putting things into perspective, the tinysa is a new product, as is it's Wiki which is maintained by Erik. Erik is very good at adding knowledge to the Wiki for the benefit of the end users. Since a few tinysa users have had issues trying to understand how DfuSe works, maybe Erik can add some helpful tips to the forum's Wiki. (Ie: grab some images from my Nanovna document, below). This is one of the reasons user forums are created - to share information and provide constructive feedback. So, instead of just saying 'trash the wiki', explain the issues you're having and what info you'd like to see added.? ... Larry

Instead of selectively quoting what I wrote and thereby changing it's connotation,
you might have included that I said ..."be re-written or trashed"... .
That conveys a clearer presentation of what I wrote.
As for the issues, the e-mails I have written over the last few days and the questions I
asked can be used as a good start.

But yes, if you think it should be rewritten, what areas need to change and what content needs to be added? As one of the early members of the Nanovna forum, I started adding content to that forum's Wiki from a user perspective.? Erik has created content in the tinysa Wiki I think from his developer's perspective and when you're close to the action, sometimes certain knowledge is taken for granted - but as I said, if you you explain how you think the Wiki could be improved, let Erik know in the forum or privately.? 73.?
