Kurt,
? When I originally ran TinySA.exe the levels displayed in the application were 3dB different than those on the tinySA display.? I questioned Erik about the difference and he said it was caused by the "zero level" value under the 'Settings'.

? Per Erik, "If you go to the setting tab in TinySA,exe the "zero level" should be set to 128".

?Also per Erik, "zero level' values other than '128' are an error in the initial automatic configuration of TinySA.exe.?

My understanding is the 'zero level' setting will be depreciated in a future TinySA.exe release.? Until then I've just make it a habit of changing the 'zero level' setting to '128' whenever I update the TinySA.exe application.

Further comments on TinySA.exe from Erik:

1.? Is there a tinySA.exe software manual available??

? ? ? ?"No tinySA.exe was my swiss army knife SW for SA experiments, too complex for anyone else. I still need to simplify and create some wiki pages"

2.? When I right click on the tinySA.exe screen and "select marker", I don't see a marker display.? I have yet to figure out how to turn markers on.

? ? ? ?"Only automatic markers are implemented. No manual markers yet"

Automatic markers are implemented by setting a threshold for marker display.? Manual placement is a much needed addition to TinySA.exe.

Re: A smal report

Nice job, Kurt.

Re: A comment to the TinySA.exe

TinySA internal for calculation use measure?data * 32, for not send negative values additional add 128
This 32 multiplier need for not use slow floating point calculations, and give error 1/32 ~ 0,03 in dBm (measure step is 0.5dBm, and other is calibrations error)

And this values used for get correct data in program, need substract 128 and divide on 32

I also add better timing measure (CW freq sync), triggers, remove many slow floating points operations, speedup sweep speed, update graphic plot code, and UI

PS today i receive 2 tinySA v0.3 from Hugen :)

I have a Siglent I bought recently, plus I am hoping to find a good used HP or something to get me up closer to 20 gigs.? As a beta tester, I have two tinySAs here now.?

I was amazed at all the features Erik managed to put in the firmware.? I'd find some feature in the tinySA and I'd think, "Does my Siglent do that?"? And most often the answer was no.? The tinySA is an amazingly feature-rich device.

A smal report

Hi All

For those still considered to purchase a TinySA I have made a very rude report which gives an idea how it is to use the TinySA? and see the complexity of this fantastic product

My apology for not organizing it better as I just did this report for a friend who asked some questions how clean the signal generation was and what noise floor it had. So It is compared to my HP signal generator which is supposed be one of the better onces. So I did measure the phase noise of that signal generator which sets the level for what TinySA is able to measure, and also two amplifiers OIP3 and there was a considerable difference.

Have fun

Kind regards

Kurt ?

Bill,
? I collected a box of cable and TV tuners that I had been intending to use in a similar project by Science Dynamics, or? some company with a similar name.? It would have been fun, but no way my DIY project could have come close to what Erik has packed into the tinySA.? What I really like, and what I hate the most about the NanoVNA-V2, is that you can control it using console commands like the NanoVNA which makes it a joy to experiment with.

? I wear glasses, but I don't feel the same eye strain using the tinySA as I do with the 2.8" NanoVNA.? I think its because the tinySA display is not as busy as the 4-traces on the NanoVNA.? The other reason is that DiSlord was part of the beta test team and contributed the same beautiful 3D UI and smoother fonts that are in his current releases for the NanoVNA families.

? ?At the current rate that the tinySA is selling on Alibaba, I'm sure that's incentive for Hugen to consider a 4" factor form device.? My crystal ball also tells me hugen and Erik will not just repackage the tinySA but, also update to a higher performance STM processor.? Erik will most likely add filtering and an adjustable attenuator to the HIGH port.? With another cycle of beta testing, the 4" version could be some months down the road.

? Of course my crystal ball could be dusty, and an interim product could appear with just a 4" display upgrade.

Dick,
? ?Nice dB comparison.? I also continue to be surprised by how functional the NanoVNA-F, NanoVNA-H4 and SAA2 are in comparison to their price.? I have a couple of higher end spectrum analyzers too, but a lot of my work is at HF so the tinySA is becoming more and more the first one I reach for in that range.

? I've always wanted a portable frequency response measurement device that worked above 100MHz that I could carry in my pocket when I attended swapfests.? The tinySA fits that bill with its built in calibrator output and LOW input.? I can't wait for hamfests to start back up in my county after this COVID-19 crisis subsides so I can head for the bargain tables and cherry pick items ;)

? The LOW input is where the tinySA shines because of its adjustable attenuator and filtering.? The HIGH input is wide open and without an external attenuator is prone to producing spurious signals.?

? The LOW output produces sinusoidal waveforms up to 350MHz. The output can be swept over a selected span within that range.? The output can also be AM or FM modulated and level swept from -6 to -76dBm.? I would have been intrigued by the device if only for its LOW output features.
