Re: New FW release: Flexible trigger and external amp in output mode
Erik, Thanks for making the TinySA better and better. On Sun, Dec 20, 2020 at 1:24 PM Erik Kaashoek <erik@...> wrote: No new App version now or expected in the near future |
Re: New FW release: Flexible trigger and external amp in output mode
Just uploaded/installed the firmware 1.1-59 DFU file via the app V1.0.240.5.
It works fine - Thank you Erik. Question regarding the windows App. I am using the version 1.0.240.5. Do you have a new version available at this date? All the best Al |

A short video demonstrating the soon to be released updated output menu including the new frequency slider ? Erik, ? ? ?Nice informative video.? It works great as a portable LO for a mixer and harmonics in the LOW OUTPUT mode are at least 30dBc.? The redesigned output menu and additional features make the output mode an even better value. ? ? ?Have you considered a future separate signal generator product with the performance of the LOW OUTPUT mode (attenuation, modulation, sweep and sinusoidal) but with the frequency range extended to 1 GHz?? Even worse, I forgot it was already implemented.
Use the "offset" command, just like when in SA mode -- ------------------------------------------

New FW release: Flexible trigger and external amp in output mode
New FW release : see http://athome.kaashoek.com/tinySA/DFU/
Version v1.1-59 Changes: - Added external amplification/attenuation setting in output mode?
- Self test extended
- Bottom quick menu bug solved
- THD info marker overlap bug solved?
- Pre, Post and Mid trigger options added to trigger menu?

Very nice feature!
Is the function implemented as a console command too? I could not find anything in the response from the "help" console command... I have tried it with a screen input and it's very nice! Karl Jan |

Hi Erik! Thanks for feedback! You are right, of?course?, I have to adjust the output?level down before I start increasing!!! I don't have the "level -50".? I have also noticed the "amplifier" function too, I've not implemented this function. I suppose this function is to be used when adding an external amplifier, is this example correct? Output level to be set as -6dBm, 20dB external amplifier resulting in an output signal og 14dBm and the output level indication is 14dBm. Output level can now be adjusted to 10dBm and the "internal" level will automatically be adjusted?to -10dBm, but not shown on the display.... is this correct? Re: Tinysa tracking generator
#feature_request
Hello everyone.
I just found this thread and I see that it is very close to what I was thinking of doing. I will be using an old mixer in a metal capsule and a 433.9MHz module like the one from wanderlg. I will put everything in a metal box with some internal shielding and absorbent foam. The LO output of the TinySA will be the high level input to the mixer and I will filter the powerful 2nd harmonic of the module and attenuate its signal to about -10dBm. I hope that with this drop in level and the "inverse" attenuation of the mixers (which I trust is something over 20dB in each), I get a good dynamic range. Thanks to the "normalization" feature of TinySA, no automatic gain control will be required here.
Many thanks to Erik for his great work and kind support and to everyone else for sharing your experiences

I did a quick test using an ADE-1-24 mixer and a 433.9MHz TX module. I don't know if I ran the risk of burning tinySA, but the result was interesting, considering that I didn't use any filtering on the 433.9MHz TX.? ?I performed a similar tracking generator test using an external mixer, and my dynamic range was limited to around 30dB. Quoting Erik ... ? ?The 30dB limit comes from leakage of the external LO through the external mixer from its LO port to its RF port to the tinySA high input port into the tinySA mixer. As your external LO has probably something like +10dBm and the LO-RF isolation of both mixers is maybe 20dB you get -30dBm on the RF port of the tinySA mixer. To block this leakage path you best use a 30dB attenuator and a 25dB amplifier connected between the tinySA LO output and the RF port of the external mixer. This provides substantial extra isolation and thus extra dynamic range.? I get at least 80dB dynamic range. ? I get equal or better dynamic range from my NanoVNA-H4 using S21 two port measurements, so I never got around to actually testing the isolation amplifier/attenuator set-up. ?- Herb |
Firmware bug...

Hi Erik!
I have tested the sweep generator function, and I think there is a bug in this function. The console command for increasing amplitude is not working, "levelchange 30" should start with a "low amplitude and increase it 30dB. This is not working, while the "levelchange -30" workes nice! I'm not sure, but I think this was working earlier, but I don't remember which version I was running, perhaps the version I got when it was new. I have tested both version 1.1.59 and 1.1.52. I also tried version 1.1.32, but the "levelchange 30" is not working in any of these. Very nice job you are doing, thak you very much! I will soon publish tinySA Generator program soon, it's a Windows program controlling the generator functions on the LOW output only... Karl Jan - LA3FY |

Another suggestion. The text is not used to limit the input so you should be able to use the whole range. Erik, I am so happy to see that you added the external AMP in RF generator mode. Thank you very much for accepting my suggestion. Of course I ran to do the tests, I noticed a small problem. If you turn on tinySA, go into generator mode, set it to -67dBm and add AMP to -40dBm everything looks perfect,? but only if you typed it once, because the second attempt is already wrong. Another suggestion. Wouldn't it be better to change the value from -76 ..- 6 on this screen, to the corresponding value by adding or subtracting the value of the external AMP? (NOTE: the APP was unable to take a picture of this screen, I had to use a cell phone. I use a Portuguese to English translator, I hope it is easy to understand.) Hug and a lot of peace. |
