Re: Adding an LNA to the tinySA

That sounds very promising. There are a few wide band amps on Ebay which are in aluminium cases. I would probably get an open one, shorten the board and fabricate a box. I would be worried by the strain on the sma connector.

Maybe a future Tinysa could have a built-in switchable amp, which would then give a 60db controlled input range, with the built-in attenuator (woops, I am suggesting future possibke developments and I promised I would not do that any more).

Lee,
? The two instruments compliment each other's capabilities so having both is a bonus.? At some point you will want to check the impedance of a device, verify the through loss of a cable or attenuator and measure the return loss of a an antenna.? These are all things the NanoVNA can accomplish easily.

? With those two instruments, and an oscilloscope and multimeter, you will rival the measurement capability of small labs from a decade ago.

Erik,
? Both of those actions make sense to me.? My expected behavior was that after peak search the marker would be in normal mode.? If the user wanted to jump peak to peak afterwards they could search max-left/right, otherwise the lever would just move the marker to any position.

Hi,

You shouldn't have much trouble selling it to somebody else for most or all of what you paid.

And folks wonder why I am paranoid ....

The firmware I thought I did turns out not to be the case.
I followed the steps in the Wiki, which BTW, makes no mention of Upload vs Upgrade,
and now see I still have the old version.

Where is it written the proper way to upgrade the Firmware ??

Thank you Larry.? That was exactly the problem.? My thinking was backwards from ST's.? The first time I used the utility, I mistakenly used "upload".? Once I refreshed the .dfu file from Erik's site and "upgraded", all went well.

Yes, there is a DC blocking capacitor at the input so you can put the Vdd to the SMA center pin using an appropriate inductor. Best to add a switch too

This is a SPF5189Z amp. Many are available on eBay but make sure you buy from a reputed seller and check the current drawn as there are many fake SPF5189Z components on eBay.
Officially it should run from 5V/100mA but for low input levels 3.3V/70mA works as well.
They work well below 50MHz

Re: Adding an LNA to the tinySA

I am impressed.

However to make it a bit easier, is it possible to put the vcc direct to the ?tinysa ?input sma (assuming there is a blocking capacitor) so that it is similar to a bias tee ( is that what they are called?). Then the lna (also with a blocking capacitor) only has to be connected to the sma, without the need for the power lead.

Re: Firmware Update Question

Brent,

Make sure you are pushing the FW _to_ the device and not reading the device.?

There are two functions of DfuSe. Make sure you click on the UPGRADE button, not the Upload, which reads the device's FW.?

If you used Upload, you've overwritten the new FW file. Delete it and replace it with a new copy then flash again using UPGRADE this time.?

I just received mine today and ordered directly from Maggie on 07/24 via messaging using the to ask how to make payment for via paypal from this link:

The total was $64.59 usd, though if I understand correctly that was for HKDHL and shipped out faster since was sold out at the time I ordered and they were waiting for the next production batch. ?The progress was updated with confirmations via email after a few days and the service is the best I've experienced on Aliexpress.? Re: Firmware Update Question

Something did go wrong with your FW update as the version should read v0.1-59.

In a couple of weeks there will be a large batch available on Amazon

Waiting for Amazon to get them .?? They have a lot of NanoVNA at reducing prices.?? Is there a good source from China or elsewhere with fast shipping?? Hunting for some QRM.
