Re: Self-test error and does not continue

After the U22, it's the pe4312. I managed to find its datasheet. As for the U22, I couldn't find anything, it only has A79 written on its body. Do you happen to know exactly the value of the U22?

My laptop is usb3 only and I have not had a single connectivity problem at all. So I don’t think that usb3 can be blamed for most issues. Same thing with windows 11 being blamed in the same way. That hasn’t affected me either.?

If yes try a computer that has only USB2
There is a known incompatibility with USB3, check the WIKI and the user group comments.

Most of the attempts are 2.0. The primary connection I am using is 2.0. During my "various" ports attempts I did try a 3.0.

Re: USB / Serial connectivity issue

Thanks Roger. I am not sure I have a rig with only USB2. I had searched for solutions and ideas before posting.? There is a very definite change in the behavior of the device. The computer and ports that connected well for a day no longer connect. I have listed what I have tried. In addition I ran Zadig to see if that might help to replace the driver, but the device is not listed.

Indeed something changes below -72 dBm.
That is the reason for the parameter?

Re: TinySA Ultra+ - Signal generator level error

I wonder if there is more going on than simply component spec variations.
?
From the Spec Sheet for the Signal Generator mode, it says:
"Level accuracy +/- 2dB up to 800Mhz between -72dBm and -19dBm, less accuracy below -72dBm, even less accuracy below -110dBm"
?
This seems to imply that perhaps something changes in the Sig Gen circuitry in the -70 dBm area (and below) that affects accuracy.
?
This is right where I was seeing the degradation in the accuracy of the signal output level that I noted in my original post.
?
I may try the suggestion to enter an offset to see if that works, especially for the -80 dBm area where it was off by about 3.5 dBm.
?
Otherwise, I think I will use the TinySA Ultra+ attenuator down to -60 dBm, and then use external attenuators to achieve lower signal levels.? This seems like it could provide better accuracy at very low signal levels.
?

Re: TinySA Ultra+ - Signal generator level error

This offset is due to component spec variations
You can correct this offset using the serial USB command
leveloffset out_switch <correction value>
where the correction value is in dB

TinySA Ultra+ - Signal generator level error

NelHau

System: v1.4-192-g73fe677

While checking the output levels of the signal generator, I noticed an odd behavior at signal levels below -70 dBm.

When checked against a bench top spectrum analyzer, the signal levels were measured to be within about 0.5 dBm from -18.5 dBm to -70 dBm. However, when going from -70 dBm to -80 dBm, the output signal was only about -76 dBm. And then farther below that level the measured output levels were also generally off.

I first when down by -10 dBm steps from -50 dBm to the minimum at -115 dBm, and then went up in +10 dBm steps to -55 dBm.

Photos below.

Re: TinySA Ultra Calibration Fail.

The drop in gain above 2.2 GHz is very consistent and has fully been compensated in the factory calibration.
Above 6 GHz the ZS405/406 LNA is useless and better be disabled

The error I get on my laptop is "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)". It seems I must have a defective/failed USB port on the SA. The SA works well in every other respect.

Re: New FW release: "audio AGC" option and reduced spurs

From your description of this new feature, disabling AUDIO AGC changes PA4 from demodulated audio to a DC voltage that tracks the signal level. If that’s correct, it seems this function operates backwards. (Enable AGC = disable audio.)

For all tinySA Ultra and Ultra+ versions

Changes:
- Added CONFIG/EXPERT CONFIG/MORE/AUDIO AGC option. When disabled the PCB edge point PA4 will in listen mode have a voltage linear with the signal level in dBm Useful for integration of tinySA as selective power meter
- Reduced level of internally generated spurs on multiples of 10 MHz not being multiples of 30 MHz (ZS-407 only)

Changed out U14 LNA and Tests 10 and 14 are now good - only Test 13 fails.

Is this Test 13 failure from U22 being bad??

I also bought a few of them when I got the LNA chips

I am having this same issue with a new Ultra+ ZS-406. Was working great on my computer talking to tinySA-app yesterday and earlier today. I set up TCPUART on my phone to try using the unit remote, and that worked quite well. It is after this when I could no longer connect via USB directly.? Windows 10 machine
  • tried MULTIPLE USB cables - no USB or COM shows up in Device Manager
  • tried various USB ports - no USB or COM shows up in Device Manager
  • tried both "serial" and USB" as connection options from the config menu - no USB or COM shows up in Device Manager
  • cleared the TinySA config ("1234") - no USB or COM shows up in Device Manager
  • restart computer and try again - no USB or COM shows up in Device Manager
  • tried different Win10 machine
    • "unknown" device shows up in USB controllers section of Device Manager
    • performed uninstall device on computer, power SA off, power SA on? - no USB or COM shows up in Device Manager
Are there suggestions on what to do next?
Did the USB get borked somehow?
Is there a hard reset I should try?

Brand new to me yesterday from R&L.

Re: TinySA Ultra Calibration Fail.

The LNA is only good up to 2.2GHz, thats according to Mouser. Since the LNA, when turned on bypasses the attenuator, do we have to expect large errors in gain beyond 2.2GHz? It looks to me that it can do a bit better but maybe not up to 5GHz.
Erik - do you compensate the display via the higher end (or manual) calibration for the decline of the LNA gain? Working with even higher harmonics (like the 7x -> 12GHz) the LNA seem useless, it just blocks everything, while surprisingly the other circuitry keeps up with the LNA turned off. Interesting...

It's difficult to see in the photo but it seems the yellow trace does not go up to 0dBm at zero Hz
If this is indeed the case there is another problem which can not be easily repaired

Re: Self-test error and does not continue

I followed the procedures in the link sent to my email.
https://tinysa.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=TinySA4.FaultFinding
In the test, where 30 MHz is enabled and the analyzer is returned, my tinysa ultra does not show any peaks, it shows nothing.
According to the report, it is reported that the defect must be U22.
I am attaching a photo.
