Re: Failure after Firmware update
I have a separate issue regarding FW update.
I just received my wonderful TinySA basic. Working fine, but thought I would update the FW. Used the STMC Cube Programmer. But it failed half way with some sector failure. Now get the white screen. Tried the VDD/Boot0 short, but still white screen. Also disconnected the battery too. No luck. Obviously I cannot go to the DFU screen. Any help? Thanks Steve |

As for being able to see what's out there, the RTL-SDR can't be beat. Just make sure you get one of the real McCoy's, see rtl-sdr -dot-com. Pair this gem with PDW, an open-source offering from discriminator -dot-nl and among other things you'll see lots of POCSAG and FLEX transactions, many of which you might have wished not to see. Yes, those old 900 MHz pagers are very much in use today.
TinySA (Ultra) is so much more than a wonderful tool precursor to assist using the SDR. Cheers, Erik and community. FYI/just a friendly thought. |

Re: Need expert opinion - signal pattern
You have not told us where you are. In the USA that band segment is allocated to land mobile. 454 MHz is a common area for pagers, which are digital these days. 460 MHz will have 2-way land mobile activity. Some of it digital with maybe some analog stragglers. If you are near a city center or a repeater site you could have quite strong signals.
If you really want to nail it down you need a Yagi or a DF loop. 73 -Jim NU0C On Sun, 10 Mar 2024 14:10:55 -0700 "bench builder via groups.io" <bench.build.0i@...> wrote: 400 MHz IR-UWB is absolutely being used today due to it's ability to penetrate non-metal structures. Thanks to Joe for the video link about identifying signals. Searched my zip code for 453-455 MHz or 459-461 MHz licenses and there are none. Found this example of a wireless packet - data transmission network usually used by police, military, etc. that sounds very similar to the audio we've captured: One RF engineer I spoke to recently suggested this looked like radar/telemetry pings and packet transmission. So, this seems to fit. The 454 seems like it may be the packet transmission and the 460 blips could be the radar/telemetry pings. Does anyone have direct experience with the appearance of radar/telemetry signals and packet transmission on a spectrum analyzer (TinySA or other)? |

Exactly Andy! Oh, I bought this device. It allows me to read numbers that I don't understand the meaning of I'll check out the?theory with? Tick-Tock... On Sun, 10 Mar 2024 at 22:47, Andy G0FTD via <punkbiscuit=[email protected]> wrote: It could be worse. |

Oh come on, some bloke with a tiny sa is not going to be subject to government surveillance is he? Why don't you look at the work of the University of Glasgow group Extreme Light...they can also look through walls and round corners.? Also years ago you could get a plug and put it into the mains socket method to extend your wifi. People with baby monitors found that they were being? intercepted online! If you think that's bad you should read the papers produced for the CIA on remote monitoring by way of piggybacking on peoples wifi. I found this blog article which gives a brief overview of various technologies, but ignore the poor graphics. https://www.kentfaith.co.uk/blog/article_cameras-that-can-see-through-walls_587 The method I recalled was Passive millimeter wave imaging, and not Ultra-wideband radar imaging, which was the technique you mentioned Personally, I'm still sceptical that it is what you think it is, but I'm always curious, so be sure to let us all know when you figure out what it actually turns out to be. 400 MHz IR-UWB is absolutely being used today due to it's ability to penetrate non-metal structures. There are articles about use for survivor detection. And, here's a nature article about figure detection & passive vital sign monitoring through walls: We've determined frequencies for everything we have emitting signals. It's nothing of ours. And, the signal is way too strong to be a more pedestrian item in a next door home given distance between houses. There are reasons I won't detail that suggest nefarious neighbor activity. So, with that context, what are some possibilities? |

If you have any Smart prefixed item at home or next door, meter, phone, alexa, IOT fridge, car keys, automatic garage door...These are likely to be the culprits.? Wifi is another bad guy - wifi can be piggy-backed for surveillance?purposes. On Sun, 10 Mar 2024 at 12:37, Joe <k1ike_mail@...> wrote: Watch this YouTube: |

Could this be UWB radar similar to that used by military and law enforcement to create visual representations of any people behind walls in non-metal structures?NO These systems use very high frequency microwave signals, which are way, way above the upper frequency limit of the TinySA. I think what you are seeing and hearing, is locally generated. The 'swooshing' noise you are hearing is due to the sweep rate of your TinySA. If you change the sweep rate or reduce the frequency range you are viewing, and if you vary the sweep rate, it may become more obvious what the signal actually is, and where it is coming from. When listening, you should tune directly to the signal centre frequency and use zero span. I assume you are using the supplied mall whip antenna, in which case you may actually be picking up some interference from the TinySA itself. However, it is more likely that it is emanating from an electronic item somewhere around you or your immediate neighbour's homes. Allocations vary from country to country, but these sorts of frequencies are used by short range radio control devices, and for industrial purposes such as collecting telemetry from remote power and water installations, or the control of temporary traffic lights etc. Regards, Martin |

Using the tinySA Ultra, I've observed a cycle that repeats itself continuously ¨C a short 454 MHz signal followed by very short flickering bursts at 460 MHz (see first video link): I used listen mode and recorded the audio of the longer 454 MHz signals which sounds like a repetitive whoosh or pulse (see second link for audio): Note LNA is OFF. These are actual dBm readings which have been as high as -50 by our north wall. Could this be UWB radar similar to that used by military and law enforcement to create visual representations of any people behind walls in non-metal structures? All opinions about what the signal pattern might be are appreciated. |
Re: Official Re-sellers?
I second R&L. They are a USA vendor with a very good reputation. Support your local vendors!

Yep.? I just ordered an Ultra from AliExpress using the link on the tinySA.org website. Paid via Paypal.? Ordered a couple of appropriate attenuators as well.? I've ordered other similar items from AliExpress in the past and it was all good.? Usually took ~2wks to get stuff.?

Official Re-sellers?
Hello All,
I am interested in purchasing one of the Tiny SA Ultra units.? Can somebody direct me toward an official re-seller(s) of the unit either in or can ship to the USA.? I do not want a clone. Also, what is the latest update for the original Tiny SA (genuine) that can be loaded with a Windows machine? Thank you. --jeff |
