Does that mean to say that if it is a fake, the unit will fail to operated totally only having a blank screen? In short, does it turn into a paper-weight if fake or cloned?

The cloners have "patched" the firmware on their counterfeit products so that they show a pass for all self tests.? If you want to see if you have a genuine tinySA flash with tinySA firmware from the official download site and then run the self tests.? Erik's self-tests are very thorough and counterfeit products will fail...

No it still "works" to some degree if it fails self tests. Simply put the unit does not meet Erik's specifications for the tinySA.? Some tests, like the attenuator,? are more critical to obtaining accurate measurements.? Other test failures may just mean the noise floor is higher, the unit may not calibrate properly or the signal generator outputs are not within specifications.
It is up to the purchaser to decide whether the unit is acceptable and suitable for their needs.
