Yes, I gathered it will need to be very close. I'm fairly certain it's in my house somewhere. I was just trying to calibrate it at my desk and couldn't get any signal on the RTLSDR, but it was also acting strangely, like stopping seeing any signals in the FM music band until I reset it.
I have a dipole 415mhz antenna that I'm going to try for transmission, hoping it can get enough out to trigger the fob.
