I took off the front to short the boot pins out to enter DFU mode. In the old firmware I couldn't see the menu option for DFU :)
and as for the plastic film.... thats been on since it came. I just left it on to stop screen getting scratched. Lazy I suppose, or hoping screen lasts forever.
