Since it was running for some time could it have heated up resulting in an intermittent connection?
Does the display have a connector? If so can you reseat the connector?

Just to be sure, you did disconnect? the battery with the device not connected to USB and totally powered off?
You could try to load an older FW that does not save settings so is less likely to get into a corrupt state. See:?
Maybe go back in steps of a month till you get something that at least sweeps
