Re: Question.......

Judy Lehman

Hi Corell,

We live in Southern CA, Redlands. You live up where it is cool. The first
month I had the machine I collected Freebies like they would never be there
again. Then I got brave and started buying patterns. We bought the Brother
machine with all the Disney and Pooh characters, because of the grandkids.
My ultimate dream is to some day own a Bernina Artista, or what ever they
are making at that time. I first got into making K-lace (?), I figured any
dummy could do that. In the process of making those I did learn a lot about
my machine, but you don't learn how to place that on a garment. I have dug
out a sweat shirt that I will try and put my favorite bouquet of daisies on.
I think this is right, I hoop up to layers of wash away stuff, the pattern
is very dense, then I put a layer of wash away stuff on the top and let her
rip. I have learned that with the Brother sewing machine that the metal
bobbins hold three times as much thread and doesn't bounce around like the
plastic ones.

Hi Judy,

I feel like I'm in the same boat as you! (I live in Calaveras Co., CA,
where do you live?) New to this machine embroidery but I'm getting the hang
of it. I also made blocks and blocks. Then I started really digging around
on the web and found so many other things out there to do with embroidery
designs. I've gotten addicted to collecting designs. Would you believe
that I have 7 ZIP card full? I don't think I will live long enough to use
them all!! I've gotten so many ideas from different lists. They are
wonderful, even if they do go a "little crazy" sometimes. One of my
favorites is the Wee Village quilt list. They are a block of the month with
darling little fairy or gnome houses. I'm going to do them and work my
machine embroidery collection of fairies into them. Another fun thing is a
block swap. I just finished a fairy block swap. I don't participate much
in the lists, just lurk, read, and learn. Maybe when I get better at this I
may get brave and participate. LOL I have done a few quilts, little ones.
And some great sweatshirts if I do say so myself! ggg I'm not very creative
myself but with so many wonderful ideas out there I find that I'm gradually
finding my own niche and enlarging on them and making them my own. So don't
go away!

think
maybe I am in the wrong group, I need a Beginning Group. I feel like I
spend all my time converting thread colors over to Isacorde colors. I

Re: what to make for dad?

What a great idea, Venus. I'm going to adapt this to my frozen water bottles. I freeze 3/4 full water bottles to take in the car with me as this keep coler longer. (It gets hot here in the Summer!) I've been cutting the cuffs of of hubbie's crew socks. Talk about tacky but it keeps the seats of car from getting damp. I'm sure that your wraps will be 100% better. Can't wait to make some.

Re: Question.......

Judy Lehman

Yes, I have cross reference charts, but they never seem to be up to date. I
have wondered why the people don't tell you what thread they are using
before you buy the pattern. Some threads are easier to cross reference than
others. We just about have Madera and Isacord down to a science, then
Isacord adds 36 new colors. I over heard an Isacord rep saying they
intended to add 80 more colors before the end of the year.

Judy in California

I may be a little late with this, but Judy, do you have a cross reference
chart for thread colors? I know there are some out there. Also all the
t-shirts I wear around the house have lizzards and frogs on them
(practice).
My grand nephew loved his lizzards and frogs.

Re: what to make for dad?

Venus

It isn't you, back in March I had a computer problem that required me to trade my old crappy lap top in for a brand spanking new one under my warranty...poor me huh. Anyway I made a back up of all my files and when I went to load them I realized I had saved everything to a bad disc. I lost all my work every single bit of it. By the time I found out the hard drive in my old one had been destroyed. So I have to start over, doesn't that soooo suck! The worst part is that I have told people over and over make many back ups do not rely on one but when they called me that my new computer was ready I was so excited I didn't want to take the time to make a back up for my back-up. Oh well

Nancy Barnes

Hi Jane -

I'm so glad to have you stay! We need all the good people we can get, and you sound like a sweetie! Tay as sweet as you are - and as for being a cre-giver, well, that only proves my point. My dear husband is one. I've been sick for a long time, and for quite a while now he's had to do the dishes, made me breakfast in the morning, or anything anytime. I am one who absolutely HATES tro ask for things, and my EX wouldn't do you-know-what for me. My husband repatedly says to me "well, I'm not him". I'm so lucky, and it seems your husband is too!

God bless -

Nancy Barnes

PS - Look forward to talking again sometime! WELCOME! - You'll love it here - Miems is great, and as far as I can tell, the whole group is!

Linda,
I have bought some books, I'll have to check and see which ones I purchased.
I have thumbed through those books, but I haven't sit down and read them.
Thank you for the information.

Judy,
I have found the following books to be most helpful and I refer to them
often: 101 Ideas for Machine Embroidery

This has listed ideas for embroidery, placement guides, stabilizer chart
and
troubleshooting tips.
ABCs of Embroidery by Machine by Martha Sheriff and Susan Beck is from
