Re: name tags
PJR
Just my two cents, but I would think doing it as a badge would make each blanket have a stiff, not-so-comfy spot where the tag is.

I would do them as a quilt label - just use a good linen or muslin, and perhaps put a simple floral or other border around the writing. Be sure to leave space between each on to give them room to turn edges under or stitch in some way to keep the labels from fraying. Merriweather ----- Original Message -----

conversion software. I guess they're more interested in exclusivity than a wider market. Sorry for not "getting" what you were saying. I am still surprised that she didn't get at least Artista Editor Lite with her machine, which would allow tons of format style conversions, as many as the higher priced versions of Artista. It's not horribly expensive. KathyS -----Original Message-----

Subject: [HookedOnEmbroidery] Re: Things That Really Bug Me - Bernina ART doesn't bug me!! Kathy You've missed the point of my post entirely and I was not being inaacurate at all. I didn't say the designs couldn't be converted, I said you couldn't do it unless you had Bernina software which most people who don't own a Bernina wouldn't have, as it is expensive. I was also replying to the lady who stated she could only use ART4 format. You are obviously lucky enough to be able to use a variety of formats, have the software necessary to convert, and are happy to use converted files rather than native, original, tested files. This lady stated that she could ONLY use ART4 (and therefore couldn't or didn't want to convert) and was complaining as to why digitisers weren't providing it. The simple answer is beause we can't unless we fork out a large sum for Bernina's software and that is what I have a beef with. Other manuafactureres allow saving and conversion with most software. Bernina won't and that obviously affects their users or they wouldn't be posting complaint about the lack of ART formats available. If you can convert to ART that's fine, and you probably have the Bernina software to do so, but this lady can't and wanted us to do it for her. I was simply explaining why most of us can't convert to ART, and why I won't. I didn't say it wasn't possible - in fact I said it was possible, but only if you have the Bernina software, and THAT was what was unfair. The other issue is that if I am buying designs, I want to buy a native file. That is, the format in which it was digitised and tested. I don't want to buy a file and then convert to another format in order to be able to use it. Converting can affect the quality of the design, particularly intricate lace, and it may not sew out well. You don't seem to have had that experience, but as a digitiser, I have had people complain when they've converted a file to another format and it hasn't sewn out well. Digitisers can only guarantee what they sell, not what people convert to. If Bernina is not allowing digitisers to save a native file in ART format unless they are using Bernina software, then that is ultimately restrictive for Bernina users and that was my point, and in that I was accurate. name tags
marciakay9
Once again I'm asking fellow embroideriers for their help..I have been
contacted by a local group to make "name/gift tags" for the fleece blankets they are making for terminally ill patients...they would like to sew these tags to the corner of the blankets...and asked if I could embroidery the tags...where would I begin? there would be only two lines and about the size of 2 x 2..would I just embroidery these lines on a linen/muslin cloth then cut them out to size for them to sew on or would I embroidery the backgound with the lettering on top such as a badge? Any suggestions will be a great help...marcia in pa |

Hi Brandy,
I've been reading reviews of the 6600 and it sounds wonderful! This is a combination I was thinking of, as well. The 6600 sounds very powerful, which is a big plus. I'm not really a quilter, though. Do you think it would work well for a serious garment sewer? Hugs, Lyn --- In HookedOnEmbroidery@..., Brandy Williams <one_sweet_t_bear@...> wrote:

Re: OT Website Traffic question
Hi Shell,
The link in your post was black.... ie: not 'active' If you put the in front of your website address in your signature, it would arrive to the list as an active link that people can click on, to go directly to your site. Unless I click an active link right away, I seem to forget to do it later using copy and paste into our browser. (my memory span doesn't last beyond the next email!) LOL There are other ways of making the links active via the menus, but I don't remember that either! works. I have had one for about 2 years now. How do you get traffic to your site? Right now, I only have my rhinestone clothing, jewelry, and painted paver, but will soon be adding embroidery designs within a month (I hope!) Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated : ) Shell www.sparklesbyshell.com |

Re: Reading file formats
Lucy and Brian
Artlink is exactly what the name says - links art files to your machine.
If you want your Bernina machine to read/convert from other formats then you need the Artista software. I am not aware of any other programs that covert to ART format, although I thought I saw postings that indicated that the new freebie version of WilcomTruesizer was supposedly able to convert to ART. Re: Bernina can use PES

Dear Margaret in Maryland
Don't be blue! I used to have a Bernina Artista 180 and suffered the way you are. Then, one day, a kind fairy told me of the following procedure. It takes a while but works for that special design you just have to have! First of all convert any format you like into EXP format (I swear by Embird but perhaps there is a freebie software programme out there that will just convert to EXP) and store it somewhere on your PC. Next open the Art Link software. Go to File and open Card Read/Write. Don't worry about having a card - you don't need one because you are going to be using Art Link on the PC directly linked to the machine. My PC then shows "Device selection"; asks you to select the embroidery system.(180 in our case) You then click in the appropriate Com Port which is the port on your PC where the cable which is connected to the Artista goes in. Then it says (on mine) "the access to the internal design memory failed" Don't freak - just press OK - don't know why it says that! Then it says something about the access to something or other has failed. Ignore that one too and okay it. Eventually - God willing - you will get to a window headed "Read from Embroidery system etc etc" Now open the folder you want, using the open file icon which is the bottom one of the three in the middle of the screen.(I have designs saved in a file marked EXPS for conversion) and remember to tick the box marked "show files". Patience - we are almost there! Now select one of the icons in the box on the bottom left hand side (you will see that suddenly they all have artista icons!) Now go to the icons on the right hand side (four of them). Select the one at the top which is a reel of thread on a paint palette (!) Press that and bingo! The design opens up in your Art link and is ready to download to the machine and stitch out! Don't forget to "Save as" with a new name so you can find it again. You will also see that the colours are stranger than you could imagine but that's the price you pay. The embroidery freebie world is now your oyster! You can stitch out anything that you can convert to EXP. I hope this is clear to you. I haven't done this for ages as I now have a Janome MC11000 Good luck!!
