Re: OT: Peanut Butter Recall

Tracy

If you have been eating the peanut butter for a week or more with no ill effects, then it is ok. I wouldn't eat anymore, but it is likely that the peanut butter was not affected. The con-Agra site says that they "think" it might be the peanut butter, but are not sure.

If someone has eaten it recently-- keep the jar for several days until you are sure no food poisoning has occured. While most cases manifest pretty quickly (8-12 hours), everyone's metabolism is not the same- some folks run faster and some slower-- keep the jar long enough for anything to show up in the "slower" family members (Fast = go every day; slow = go every two or three days- slower than this may indicate some other type of medical problem that may warrant attention.)

My son just informed me that he ate lots yesterday from a brand new jar (I just found out about this today), so we will see, but as he is a healthy 16-yo boy, he will probably be just fine even if he did get some salmonella.

Many times people get a "24-hour stomach bug/virus" that is almost always food poisoning - they just don't know it. In normal, healthy individuals, it usually goes away on its own. When to worry-- when it becomes a concern about dehydration. Young children and the elderly are the ones who usually get severe cases and should always seek medical attention.

Hope this info helps put minds at ease,
