If I had had any idea of how much money this embroidery passion of mine
is costing me I don't think I would have touched it with a bargepole to
start with!! LOL
When we start out as newbies in embroidery we are very excited at all
the wonderful ideas/projects that are out there for us to do. We also
are inexperienced at distinguishing between a good design and a poor
quality design so welcome the generosity of those who provide samples of
their work for us to try.
I was a member of a number yahoo embroidery groups in the early days as
I was anxious to learn as much as I could, quickly. I subsequently
unsubbed from a couple of groups because I was not impressed with the
bickering/rudeness on lists as well as some of the high handed
conditions being imposed. At the end of the day it is all about choice -
you can choose to join a group or not, you can choose to leave a group,
you can choose to be fanatically about getting designs or you can choose
not to download them.
I still belong to a few groups that regularly give out freebies; the
time, effort and generosity of these people is very much appreciated but
now I mostly don't bother to download these freebies unless it relates
to a project that I might want it for, or part of a design set that I am
really interested in/ considering buying, in which case I prefer to go
to the website and download the associated set sample. My prime
motivation in staying with the groups is hear of new developments and to
get ideas for sewing projects and where appropriate to share my learning
experiences (not often required as a lot of queries are answered by the
time I get to read my emails :-) )
Not enough hours in my day for all the things I need to do/sewing I want
to do for me to get hung up on small issues. My husband has a great
saying that he often sprouts to remind me about the need to focus on
things that matter - keep your eye on the doughnut and not the hole.
Happy sewing everyone.
Cheers
Lucy
