Softrock and Tiny Linear 4
So - with the help of the Tiny Linear - I made my very first QSO with the Softrock. Being mindful of its sensitivity to ground loops, I installed an optocoupler at the PTT output of the AtTiny. I superglued it to the top of the board, fed it with a 1.2K resistor, and soldered a cable with an RCA jack to it. Worked fine. The Tiny Linear took the Softrock's 2W and magically transformed it to 25W - which people can actually hear :).

WTB: RXTXv6.2 20m_30m
Hi all, As the subject line sez, I am looking for a RXTXv6.2 20m_30m kit built or not. I would also consider a non-working unit as price is kind of an issue for me. If you have one, please reach out to me. Many thanks! -- "Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most!" Very best 72/73 from Vermont. . Bob de k2ki k2ki@... Softrock rxtx inop no longer 7
OK, I fixed it. It was transformer T6. One of the leads was not connecting to its circuit board land. Now receive is much improved, and it actually transmits! I am seeing two watts output on 40M. But not with HDSDR :(. I have only gotten transmit working with "rocky", which is primitive. HDSDR does hit the PTT on the softrock, but does not seem to actually supply it with any baseband audio. Can HDSDR be made to transmit? If not, what's the hot ticket for SDR software to use with the softrock?

Soldering heating problem 9

Soldering iron temperature is adjusted by setting the voltage level at which a thyrisror in series with the soldering iron heating element turns on for both the positive and negative half cycles of the AC waveform. Thus there is the starting portion of each AC half cycle that is not applied to the resistive element of the soldering iron and hence less energy, as in lower temperature of the soldering iron tip. > > Is there any possibility that the problems I have been having in the last few months with not hot enough soldering irons has anything to do with the AC wave shape my local power, i.e. ENERGY, company is distributing? > > Again, thanks to all !!! > > Best regards, > Tony, kb9yig > > > > Sent from my iPad > >> On Jul 16, 2021, at 5:37 AM, Alan G4ZFQ <alan4alan@...> wrote: >> >> Hello Tony, >> >> I wonder if you have changed the type of solder? >> I still use the "hazardous" lead/tin, the later lead-free is not nice to >> use. >> Otherwise maybe someone could recommend a temperature-controlled iron? >> I hope you find a solution, you are still providing good SDRs. >> >> 73 Alan G4ZFQ >> >> >> >> >> >>

LCR recommendations? 36
After my recent experience discovering the bad capacitor only after almost complete disassembly of the filter, I'm considering getting an LCR meter but there's only one catch in my case: it has to be low cost. I know low cost and reasonable quality stay mostly opposite but in today's market, the relationship between them has increased... sometimes. So what would you recommend? Someone recently suggested an LC-100A, but then I read that it can arrive with issues that make reading of low value components impossible. I suppose I could go that route as long as it had free returns and only from China as the US vendors are too expensive for me. Thanks in advance. Jon

quick test
Ok,looks like it made it. Not sure what's up. I had to change stmp from verizon to aol and, so far, the only way I can get the accounts working again is to go into AOL and use them to generate an email password. So far, none of my own passwords will work.

quick test
Sorry guys, just a quick test to see if my email makes it to the group. I don't know what's happening with the Verizon-AOL relationship lately, but about 2/3 of my accounts stopped responding. Not sure of the cause.

Nasty TX spurious at LO 5
Hi All, after having built the Ensemble RXTX for 30/20/17 m, and all tests performed, and compared to LTspice simulation of operating points, everything is just fine: SSB ok, CW ok, tuning ok (Quisk). Except a nasty spurious at ANT, frequency exactly LO, level -20 dBm. It shows up at ANT as soon as PTT is on, and stays there, also while transmitting on a nearby frequency. On a nearby external receiver, the spur is also audible with PTT off -> QSE disabled. Disconnecting the four I/Q inputs to the QSE does not help. All supply and bias voltages are clean. The only thing that "helps" is shortcircuiting the balancing xfrm T2 after the QSE mixer. So, does anybody has the same problem, or any ideas, how to get rid of it? Any help or ideas thankfully appreciated. 73 es tnx Felix DB9FN

Getting back in the game.. Cases? 3
Greetings from Virginia. Been a while since I posted. I have started my softrock experiments again in earnest. I am in the market for any RXTX ensemble cases (KM5H) that someone might have laying about that they would sell me. [please PM me or send email to "guy at eastroad dot com" I have many ideas on what do do with these fun Softrocks.. I am a CW only guy so presently only using the Rocky interface. I will post more as I get started. I work at UVA and things are settling down a bit (I am the director of Facilities Management for the Libraries) and I can stop working the 14-18 hour days! and play radio a bit. Anyway.. I hope all are well here. DE N1GMM (Guy)

something odd 15
I'm finding sometimes that signals are about half of what they should be. This happens when either Softrock is used and was going on before I starting using the filters. As you know, I have coax feeding a 9:1 unun and the 100 foot wire attaches to that. The unun and attachment points are right outside the window and I can easily reach outside to access the area from inside. Now when I experience the signal loss, if I just wiggle the unun slightly or just barely move it, normal reception is returned. At first, I thought the wire 100 foot wire might be contacting ground and shorting out somewhere, but that is not the case. Any ideas welcome.

homemade chebyshev 7th order BB band stop to begin soon 106
What parts I didn't have are on the way to start construction of the chebyshev 7th order BB band stop filter. The inductors will be a combination of ferrite and powdered iron toroids. I'll be using the ugly duckling or island method to make this and then placing the board into a metal casing. Since I haven't done anything like this in a while, I wonder how compact I can get with the toroids, should there be a certain spacing, orientation, etc? Thanks. Jon
