FS:Softrock RxTx Kits 2
Gents, I bought them to fix up and build but have never gotten around to it. In this lot of 3 is a partially completed 30/20/17m, a completed and unknown 15/12/10 and another in kit form that is missing a 3904 that I will add. They were purchased like this, I have done nothing with them past adding them to the pile of "to do's". Perfect for parts or a good project for someone. I am looking for 175$ shipped for the lot. Willing to trade for other qrp kits? Contact me off list please at my qrz listed e-mail dherron at live dot com 73 David N8DAH

Subharmonic sampling? (Re: [softrock40] Crystal wanted to change Softrock to receive Ten Tec IF output) 3

Is there a write-up somewhere describing how this works? So far as I can tell it would only work if the sampling interval were in the 17 ns range[1], which neither the quadrature mixer nor any sound card would appear to be capable of. Further, Softrock Lite II Home - Softrock Lite II RX <http://www.wb5rvz.org/softrock_lite_ii/index?projectId=8> contains by way of explanation: > The two quadrature signals from the Divider stage are fed into the > mixer stage. The 4.6825 MHz quadrature signals from the divider in the > 20m option are rich in harmonics. The third harmonic (14.0475) is what > is actually used in the mixer stage. which would appear not to be subharmonic sampling at all, but the normal operation of the quadrature mixer taking advantage of there being enough power in the crystal's third harmonic to operate as usual with a 14.0475 MHz clock. Have I missed something? - Roland 9V1RT 1: At 30 MHz, the Nyquist rate is 60 MHz or ~1/(17 ns).

mirror image - ensemble II HF 7
question : Are there any components that can be burned out or degraded by RFI that would affect the quadrature output? background-- I built this ensemble II years ago and it's has worked perfectly in the radio shack. A year or two ago it seems to have developed a mirror image problem including on a not so new Win10 I3 machine that used to work fine with it that I still use. It shows mirror images on my macbook, a win10 laptop, another Win10 workstation, or a new Win11 desktop. Realizing that some new computers and my own in particular, do not support a stereo mic input and/or are extremely vague in their techinical spec for the internal sound cards, I tried several USB cards, the latest, a Behringer UCA202 USB unit that definitely supports stereo inputs. No joy on any computer. All that circumstantially isolates the problem to the Ensemble II itself. The ensemble II still receives and tunes fine but I cannot eliminate the mirror image on the display. Both left and right outputs work. (one alone would produce a mirror image). But combined, the quad phase difference should remove the mirror image. Finally - before giving up, I consulted http://www.wb5rvz.org/ensemble_rx_ii/ (I probably used that doc to assemble it - the websites have changed in that time ... ) ... checked voltages, etc. I inspected the traces with magnification for shorts, found nothing, but reflowed anything suspicious. I don't have a scope which would probably nail the problem down. Q: what next? Q: which components can malfunction (.e.g. burned out or degraded by RFI ) and affect the quadrature output? thanks all, Peter KH6DK

F/S Built HF RX II & RXTX 40/30/20 in KM5H Kases, E-MU 0204 6
Looking to sell my HF RX II in a silkscreened KM5H case $85 delivered. HF RXTX built for 40/30/20 in in a silkscreened KM5H case $105 delivered. E-MU 0204 in the original box with original documents, CD & cable. $115 delivered. Non-smoking home. I built both Softrock’s from kits and they performed as expected. As a precaution before offering them for sale here they were both sent to Tony in August for his once over blessing. He complimented me on my workmanship and both tested fine. I don’t often check my old yahoo email, the best is KK4HP@.... I can accept pretty much all forms of electronic, PP, Venmo, Zelle. Or conventional payment. Email me and I’ll be glad to follow up with photos outside & inside. -Charles

PE0FKO/DG8SAQ firmware conversion to Si5351A? 16
I think I am going to try this. I've learned the AVR toolchain, played with the Si5351 library by NT7S. The change looks doable so far - just rip out the PLL parameter calculation for Si570 and replace with different ones for Si5351A. But I am sure there are gotchas on the way. One thing I don't want to learn is Windows programming for the control software (cfgsr-setup). But it would be nice to have at least some functionality of it, like burning the initial frequency to EEPROM. Maybe somebody did this conversion already, or at least tried? Any tips? 73, Mike AF7KR

Fivedash liquidation sale- 8.83 MHz
Steve, I made up a softrock lite II for 8.83 MHz for a Kenwood TS120. When using a 35 MHz crystal in my Softrock Lite II I had a lot of trouble getting enough amplitude out of the crystal oscillator and amplifier to drive the flip-flop divider. It now works after : Both transistors (3904 and 3906) selected for higher gain. I used a little multifunction TC1 box to measure hfe. ..... These part values may be a little different than the official values because I built my own Lite II with the parts I had on hand. C10 ( like C3 in lite 6.2) (base to emitter on Q1) 47 pf C11 ( like C4 in lite 6.2) not used C12 ( like C5 in lite 6.2)(between 2 transistors) 27 pf R16 (base of second transistor to gnd) 10K (replace 22k ) The signal still looks small on a scope, but since it is now centered around 2.5 V it works for the CMOS parts. ........ I did not try the 1000 pf for C4(lite 6.2) because it is not there on Lite II. - Maybe a good thing to try? regards David, K0IMH

Fivedash liquidation sale 4
Good Morning Group, I have some of the last items in my possession that I want to sell to cover some personal expenses. A built and properly working HF RX II receiver board in a KM5H metal case, $55 which includes USPS postage to a US address. A not built Peaberry SDR V2 transceiver kit, $65 which includes USPS postage to a US address. Two Softrock Lite II receiver kits, $13 per kit which includes USPS postage per kit to US addresses. I have a number of miscellaneous crystals that I could search through if a Lite II kit with a different center frequency is wanted at no additional charge. A 20W Elecraft Dimmy load, $11 which includes USPS postage to a US address. An AmQRP Elsie L-C meter kit, $11 which includes USPS postage to a US address. If a person has an intress in one of the items above, but not at the requested price, let me know what you would pay and I will consider it in one week from now if the item has not sold. Please contact me directly at kb9yig@... . Thanks, Tony, kb9yig

LF Ensemble Toroid 5
Hi Folks, I am proceeding to winding the L1, L2, L3 toroids for the LF kit. I am having a time of it trying to wind the 117 turns for L1 & L3. Is it OK to overlap the winding? I do not see any other way to get all those turns on those cores. I have searched through the messages & files here and have not found much help. What am I missing? 73, Kevin NZ1I

piggyback boards for RxTx 6.3 4
I've got an old RxTx 6.3 that I've got some real uses for now (it had been shelved for a while). I will be setting it up to work only on 10m. Does anyone have the transmit and receive piggyback boards (amp and filters) that I could get? I don't have the means to roll my own, and I'm on a very limited fixed income. If I can find the boards, it will put a really decent radio online again. Thanks! Bob N4FBZ

Need Binocular core for LF kit 5
Hi Folks, I am building a RX Ensemble LF and while winding T-02 I broke the Core. I had it in a vise for winding but crushed it. So if anyone has a Binocular Core BN-43-2402 , Please let me know. I have not yet looked to Mouser etc. Also, if anyone has any Hints for winding this 7T/3T bifilar inductor that would help too! Thanks and 73, Kevin NZ1I

Need RXTXv6.1 building manual 2
Dear all: A friend gave me a bag with the components of an old SoftRock RXTXv6.1 kit, but the CD inside is unreadable. Would any of you have, by chance, the contents of this CD so that I can have a shot at building the transceiver? Thank you very much! Mikel EA5IYL

Ensemble RXTX Compressed Band Width
I just had my Ensemble RXTX II change its operation behavior. I did hear a popping noise and then the frequency band displayed on the SDR software was compressed to a small portion of the displayed band width. It should have been 96KHz for my computer sound card and software settings. Attached is a png image screen shot taken when Quisk software was running with the Softrock RXTX. Even though the displayed band width was small, I could hear some SSB transmissions (though distorted) coming through. Has anyone seen this behavior and what is the cause and any remedy? Sorry, the screen shot would not attach to this message. Robert George
