Howard, And this is the switch-tuned version? As described here? http://www.wb5rvz.com/sdr/RXTX_V6_3/ I guess Rocky is best for CW, I think that has COM port PTT. Yes, you will need a USB adaptor.

After you install the driver , there is a drop down menu in HDSDR to enable the transmitter function.
