Re: 9v1al motherboard V3.6

I have the 6 files, all quite large so I shall send them on in separate emails later this evening.

John

There is this

Were they in the Files section? They should have been duplicated in the transfer.
I think the Mobo also had their own group, do not know if still current.... Looks like it

I am also looking for them, thanks, Paul K0ZYV

Re: RD16HHF1 source?

Arrow's Varical is a Mitsubishi distributor and should have them.
But (there always is one) usually will only sell in the smallest factory pkg.
IIRC the RD06 minimum was 34 pieces.

Re: HSDR Output

Hi Howard,

No, I have not heard from the company yet. I may start inquiring to find out the status.

I shall let you know asap.

Regards

Ed.

W9SZ, Zack. Microwave Contest Winner 2020

Hello All,
Just to let group know, Zack W9SZ had an exceptional showing in the SE VHF 2020 Fall Sprint Contest as a microwave rover. Making amateur microwave equipment work on a bench or in the shack is one thing. Traveling all over portable for rover operation is another level of making things work!

Because of this Zack gets to keep the Orange Klystron Award (see photo) in his shack until next year's winner gets it. If Zack wins Fall 2021 then it will stay with him another year.

Generally speaking attic antennas will pick up more noise than outdoor antennas so I would not expect the SNR to be as good.

But I would have thought your attic dipole would be receiving plenty of stations, provided it is matched to whatever feeder you are using on the bands of interest.

How exactly is your attic dipole connected to the Softrock?

What bands are you using?

Re: antenna question

However, the antenna I'm using, a 30' long attic dipole isn't doing so well and looking for upgrade suggestions.
The Softrocks need good TX-type antenna.
With any antenna the first question is whether on the frequency of interest does the noise level increase when you connect the antenna?

If not a preamp may help. If noise increases then you need a quieter antenna or different location.
I'm not an expert but indoors is likely to be worse.

The input of preamps is designed for its use. A wire or loop would need different matching.

Most electronics are rated to work at high temperatures, I would not worry about that unless run close to maximum dissipation.

Nano VNAs are good but in my opinion are not the answer to your problem.

Re: antenna question

A TinySA and a NanoVNA are extremely useful bits of technology. I have
both and they are great.

Private not public reply.? Invest in an inexpensive NanoVNA and tune your antennas.? Amazing learning tool and improvements in my low power projects.? Ebay/Amazon.

Years ago, when I did my Jupiter listening, I had a dual dipole set up
at 20 Mhz outdoors with a coax preamp.? The antenna did pretty well, not
just for Jupiter but most of the HF. Unfortunately, budget and space
restrictions mean I can't erect something like this again at the current
time.

I still have the preamp, based on a Mar6 or MRF901.? I no longer have
the length of coax I used at the time, nor the wire for the dipole.? I
do have a very old quantity of RG-8 that can't really be used for
anything anymore.

A possible thought was using the RG-8 for a one meter loop antenna with
the preamp directly at the base.? Only issue is attic heat.? In the
summer, it would likely damage the preamp.? Another thought is just
using the loop indoors close to where I have the softrock.

Anyway, your thoughts would be welcome here.

Re: free HDSDR CW decoder?

Thanks, guys.? I'm going to try MultiPSK first since it looks like the easiest one to set up.? I should have mentioned that the PC never goes online so hope that doesn't cause program issues.

Re: The PE64904 chip

Hi Shirley,

I had exactly the same thought and also wondered at the 3.3V limit which, if I calculate correctly is about 14-15 dBm in a 50 ohm system. The impedance and the voltage could be much higher in a crystal filter. Two possible mitigations occur to me. First start out with a few poles of a passive filter that is as wide as the widest bandwidth and follow it with a variable filter to reduce the bandwidth even further then the passive filter would bear the brunt of strong off-frequency signals. The other idea is to use as high a frequency as possible, 20 MHz or higher if you can find fundamental crystals higher. At the higher frequencies the crystal impedances are lower so the voltages will be as well.
