But I would have thought your attic dipole would be receiving plenty of stations, provided it is matched to whatever feeder you are using on the bands of interest. However, the antenna I'm using, a 30' long attic dipole isn't doing so well and looking for upgrade suggestions.The Softrocks need good TX-type antenna. With any antenna the first question is whether on the frequency of interest does the noise level increase when you connect the antenna? If not a preamp may help. If noise increases then you need a quieter antenna or different location. I'm not an expert but indoors is likely to be worse. The input of preamps is designed for its use. A wire or loop would need different matching. Most electronics are rated to work at high temperatures, I would not worry about that unless run close to maximum dissipation. Nano VNAs are good but in my opinion are not the answer to your problem. 73 Alan G4ZFQ |

Thanks, guys.? I'm going to try MultiPSK first since it looks like the easiest one to set up.? I should have mentioned that the PC never goes online so hope that doesn't cause program issues.

If I recall correctly, both FLdigi and MultiPSK can be used with HDSDR and a SoftRock RX to decode CW.

I had exactly the same thought and also wondered at the 3.3V limit which, if I calculate correctly is about 14-15 dBm in a 50 ohm system. The impedance and the voltage could be much higher in a crystal filter. Two possible mitigations occur to me. First start out with a few poles of a passive filter that is as wide as the widest bandwidth and follow it with a variable filter to reduce the bandwidth even further then the passive filter would bear the brunt of strong off-frequency signals. The other idea is to use as high a frequency as possible, 20 MHz or higher if you can find fundamental crystals higher.
