Re: Wanted : SR5

Incidentally, have you ever used a switching mixer without sn input tuned circuit of passband filter !
I did, and it works. But, has not used it enough to check for birdies etc .
Look here :

Paul,

Yes, it will work.
How well depends on signals at odd multiples of the primary tuned frequency.
At 3 times there is an "attenuation" of about 9dB of the higher frequency, more as the number of multiples increases. (Due to the fact that at 3 times the frequency only one in three samples contributes to the output and less for higher frequencies.)
Unknown will be the effect of strong signals anywhere.

Paul,

Yes, before my time. A lot different to the v6 when I first found Softrocks.
Over the years I "upgraded" all my v6 Lites with plug-in BPFs and USB Si570s. Similar with my 6.1, 6.3 RXTXs.

Nigel,

I do not think any files have been lost. I did look at MediaFire but was not happy. Too many traps.
I looked at my copy of the zip and it looks much the same as this group's File section including some Softrock 4 files, something else I'd never looked at.

Softrock Files Archive 2009

Earlier messages similar to this are probably still buried in the messages section but I thought it might be worth another repeat, with apologies in advance if I got that wrong:-)

In January 2009, when the Yahoo groups file section was nearly full and there was discussion of the need for some heavy pruning of older files, I created an archive of all the then current folders and files to ensure they weren't lost.
There will no doubt be duplication in that archive of some files still held by the group but there may be stuff that is no longer available elsewhere.

Since 2016 this 90 MB zip file has been available for anyone to download from my account on Mediafire and I've checked today that it still downloads and opens ok.......

Sorry that should read TDA2822

Re: Wanted : SR5

Thanks for the offer, Nigel, but, I only need an SR5

Re: Wanted : SR5

Hi Alan,
I have lots of DDS and SI oscillators and want to experiment with!
The SR5 is a very basic switching mixer, with a simple, RC phase shift , with two comparators , a local xtal oscillator , low noise af amplifiers and a plug in antenna filtering.

I am mostly interested in the mixer and the audio amps. I can feed external fundamental vfo IQ feed, or, use an external 74AC74 to divide a straight vfo. Can be used as a simple monural rx, by feeding the audio amps to a TDA3820 stereo amplifier, etc etc

Nigel,
Could you give details of the softrock kits and cost of shipping to denmark

Thanks for asking, have replied off list.

You don't say where you're located but I have four as new unbuilt Softrock
5 kits in the UK.
There are four QSD boards with components and two each oscillator filter
boards with components for 80m and 160m.

These are part of a large number of Softrock kits, built and unbuilt, that
I offered for sale here in January 2019 as a complete collection.
I was asking 200 GBP for the lot, approx half new price, which I still
think is a very reasonable investment given what I've seen individual items
selling for, but I had no response.
That offer still stands, and full details are still in the group files
section, but I'm not currently looking to sell any items separately.

The v5 must be very old. I do not remember it.
How do you expect to develop it?

Re: 2 HDSDRs on one Softrock receive.

Alan,
Got it working - created two separate folders in C: drive, Decoder 1 and Decoder 2 each containing a copy of of HDSDR/Multipsk. As you mentioned I set the LO same for each and then tuned one to 2187.5 Khz and other to 2177 Khz. works great...

Thanks again

Re: 2 HDSDRs on one Softrock receive.

Thanks for help Alan,
That's given me some things to try and now I know it should be possible to achieve!
I'll come back with results....

Re: 2 HDSDRs on one Softrock receive.

Can I add another instance of HDSDR and now tune this to 2177 Khz (DSC) and decode separately/simultaneously? I have internal sound card plus VAC. There seems problems with Config tool Si570 not opening in second HDSDR?
Peter,
Presuming the soundcard will share then I would try a separate profile with no DLL selected.
Set the LO to the same as profile 1 and tune separately.

There is no need to run the ExtIO twice, there is only one Softrock.

2 HDSDRs on one Softrock receive.

Hello,

I'm using a Softrock LF/HDSDR setup tuned to 2187.5 Khz (DSC decoding) works fine. Can I add another instance of HDSDR and now tune this to 2177 Khz (DSC) and decode separately/simultaneously? I have internal sound card plus VAC. There seems problems with Config tool Si570 not opening in second HDSDR?

Re: help needed for getting RX Ensemble II running in Ubuntu 18.04?

Ignore the messages, they appear every time quisk is started. A short explanation is that it checks for stuff that doesn't exist ... we call it "Just Noise" generated by the program.

What versions of quisk and Ubuntu? You mention an old Ubuntu, trouble with that is not only the OS but applications develop at pace so that old and new can become incompatible.
In your case it seems there isn't a compatibility problem.

Newer versions of quisk use the CONFIG tab rather than the old ~/quisk_conf.py file. These later versions write and use a ~/quisk_settings.json file.

If the bands are not switching it suggests that a fixed frequency Softrock may be configured.

Well, it seems that I managed to get the SDR recognized in Ubuntu, but that's about it. I followed the instructions to the letter posted here:

Like with this gentleman, however, I am getting very similar error messages like he does at the bottom of his page:

JackShmReadWritePtr::~JackShmReadWritePtr - Init not done for -1, skipping unlock

I can start Quisk, hear CW, but that's about it. I do get visual graphs and when I try and switch bands, it does sound like it's changing but no matter what frequency I try and change to in Quisk, everything stays the same and I hear the same CW.

I was really hoping to get this working on my Ubuntu system. I lack a traditional shortwave receiver at present, and I am in the process of trying to get a 20 meter QRP transceiver working, but I need to at least hear it while I'm troubleshooting which was why I had hope to get the SDR working in Ubuntu. If I can't, I'll have to put one of my unused desktops into action and install it all on XP. Just hoped I would have to as I'm very limited on space at the current time.

Any thoughts on helping me troubleshoot this would be welcome. N8MDP, although getting similar error messages as I did, said he solved them but he didn't share how. Thanks in advance for your help.
