Next Month: Central Coast Railroad Festival Layout Tour
Next Month: Central Coast Railroad Festival Layout Tour This tour is an official event of the Festival and will take place on October 5-8 in San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties. There are several very nice small layouts on this tour. The tour is free and self-guided except for an admission charge at the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum. There are thirty railroads at seventeen venues on this tour. The list of layouts with schedules, locations and descriptions is on the Festival’s website: https://ccrrf.com/2023/Model-Layout-Tour-66.pdf Also on this link are three area maps showing the general locations of the venues. There are many other Festival activities to enjoy so check out the Central Coast Railroad Festival website: https://ccrrf.com/schedule-2023.html Recheck the layout list in early October for revisions. Persons taking this tour assume all risks and liability for their personal safety. Bob Chaparro Moderator Model Railroads of Southern California /g/ModelRailroadsofSoCalif

Monthly Reminder When: Friday, September 1, 2023 View Event Description: Discussion of the design and construction of small model railroad layouts. PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ACCEPT SALES AND WANTS ADVERTS - EBAY IS THERE FOR THEM. This group is intended for the average model railroader who does not have an entire basement or even an entire room to devote to a layout. Here we will discuss smaller layouts -- table-tops, shelf layouts, micro-layouts, modules and modular layouts -- and how they can be designed and built for enjoyment and modelling satisfaction. The above is an example borrowed from Carl Arendt's excellent site http://carendt.com/scrapbook/linkindex/index.html and also at http://carendt_backup.gully.org/ Due to restrictions in file space, 4 separate groups had been set up for the sharing of design files and photos. /g/sldfiles /g/sldfiles2 /g/sldfiles3 Due to space restrictions on groups.io photos from the Small Layout Design yahoo group are located at the following /g/small-layout-design-photos By the way, we do not tolerate trolls or flaming

LAST CALL: Show Your Railroad - Central Coast Railroad Festival
LAST CALL: Show Your Railroad - Central Coast Railroad Festival This is the last call for model railroads to participate in the Central Coast Railroad Festival layout tour. The Festival returns this year to San Luis Obispo County and northern San Barbara County on October 6-8 (Friday-Sunday). As in past years I will organize a tour of model railroads and garden railroads. We currently have over thirty railroads on the tour. I would like you to consider participating in the tour. Participating in a layout tour is a great way to share your work and meet your fellow model railroaders. You’ve probably worked hard on your railroad so you might as well get some recognition from people who will appreciate your efforts. We are only asking owners to be open for four or more hours on just one day. Additional days and hours are at the owner’s option, including "early bird" showings on Thursday, October 5. And we are asking owners in Santa Maria and areas south of Santa Maria to be open only on Sunday, October 8. All you need to do is operate your trains. I will do all the planning and publicity, as I have done for sixty-two previously tours since 2006, including ten previous tours for the Central Coast Railroad Festival. This will be a free, self-guided tour. No buses will be used. If you have any questions before committing to the tour, please ask. In any event, please contact me (OFF LIST by e-mail) in the next several days if you are interested so we can add your railroad to the tour and also set your day(s) and hours. The deadline to join the tour is Saturday, August 26. Thank you. Model Trains International index 2 #file-notice
Hello all I've just been doing some tidying up of my library. I've scanned all of the indexes Chris Leigh compiled for his late-lamented Model Trains International magazine issues 1-118 into a searchable pdf, which I've saved in the SLDfiles3 overspill group in case it might be useful to anyone. Obviously, a full set of searchable scans of the complete issues would be more useful, but I've not got time to get around to that yet and anyway would need copyright permission from all the authors so I wouldn't be able to distribute it! However, a scan of just the indexes is permissible under the private study and research exemption, and it's better than nothing. If I've worked out how to insert links into groups.io messages correctly (hmmm...), the following should allow you to download the file: MTI index And once again, at the risk of boring you all, if anyone has copies of MTI issues 5, 6, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 18 or 20 that they no longer want then I'd be very happy to buy them from you! New Tracks Modeling 12
For those of you who do not know about the New Tracks Modeling website and YouTube channel should take a look at it. I know many of you in this group have specific interests and niches that you cater too. The New Tracks Modeling deals with just modeling in all scales. There are many things that can be learned from watching others build or scratch build as well as show off their models. Yea some of it may just flat out be boring. But there is something for everyone. I challenge you all to at least take a look at both areas. The website is catching up with the YouTube channel but there is a lot to be offered. Please check them out. Sign up for the event notifications on the website and make sure you ring the bell in YouTube. Here are the links: https://www.newtracksmodeling.com/ and https://www.youtube.com/c/NewTracksModeling You can always unsubscribe if its not for you! Regards, Jim Allen

Micro Model Railway Dispatch and Model Trains International 15
Hello all The group seems a bit quiet this year! Not sure if this has been mentioned before (apologies if so) but there's a new micro-layout online magazine out called Micro Model Railway Dispatch. FREE to download from https://micromodelrailwaydispatch.com/ (although you can make donations to the publisher if you like the magazine.) Well-written and illustrated, very much in the spirit of both Carl Arendt and the much-missed Model Trains International magazine. There are eight issues out now, all available from the website. Anyway, might be of interest to someone? And speaking of Model Trains International, I know that the group blurb say that wants lists aren't allowed, but I've drawn a complete blank elsewhere on this (ebay, bookfinder, heritage railways magazine stalls etc. etc.): does anyone have any of the following early issues of MTI that they no longer want, as they are all that I need to complete my set: Issues 5, 6, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20? Here's hoping... Best wishes, Richard Taylor

Brio Pop-Up, Wind-Up Layout.... 3
Took a HO-sized Shelling wind-up streamliner and replaced the tin shell over the running gear with a plastic HO F7 to make a non-electric wind-up Brio layout for my three-year old that breaks down to fit in a shoebox, using building flats and a small HO train station for scenery. John M.
