Is anyone using any kind of operating system with a small layout? I'm
talking car-cards or computerized systems. The waybill type car-cards
seem to me would be too repetitive for a small layout/ small
inventory of cars, and you would soon memorize the destinations of
the specific cars. Another problem with car-cards is that there isn't
a way to vary the time that the car stays at the industry. All of
them seem to pick-up the car the next turn after the drop-off. Most
of the computer programs seem to need a bigger layout with multiple
towns and at least one yard. Most switching layouts can't meet those
requirements.
I am currently experimenting with the "Teton Short Line Freight
Manager" program, but having problems. The programer is talking to me
about it so it may work out yet.
What's everyone using with their small layouts?
