Archie, that's not strictly true. You can shunt the pair of 3
wagon sidings with more because you add the length of the first
point to the head shunt. With British 4 wheelers you can fit in
another three wagons without fouling the point blades. Hence the
reason for my query. I've never seen a ruling anywhere on this.

As the loco can only shunt as many wagons as can be fitted into
the head shunt with the loco only three wagons can effectively
be shunted even though it is possible to connect more in a
siding.
