?Have you all seen the beautiful, metal yellow-billed magpies on the new pedestrian footbridge crossing over I-Five near Sutterville Road? ?It¡¯s been there for a few months but I just noticed it today! My husband does all the driving and I usually am looking down at my phone texting or emailing but for some reason today I looked up just as we came to it and it is so beautiful! ?At first, we thought there were all different types of birds but it¡¯s all magpies so I think you¡¯re right David, that they are emblematic of this region. Thanks for telling us of your sightings, Catherine! I¡¯ll be on the lookout for them here in the Pocket!?

Di and Morris Erickson?

That's great.? Maybe they're bouncing back!?

I've loved that bird since I moved to Sacramento.? It's so emblematic of the region.? I was once listening to a radio show where they happened to be interviewing a woman from the Central Valley (maybe Modesto?) living in New York.? She said she had a tattoo of a yellow-billed magpie just to remember where she was from.? I'm not a tattoo guy, but that was pretty cool.?

Best,
David

Over the past week, I have seen a few yellow-billed magpies in my backyard trees. This is so exciting because I haven¡¯t seen ANY since West Nile Virus started. It¡¯s been years.
