Brainstorming 60th Class Reunion 4
I have a room reserved for Wednesday, August 23 at 11:00 at Packsaddle BBQ to share some ideas on our upcoming Class of 1964 Reunion. I thought that we would Meet from about 11:00 until ¡¡¡.. and share some thoughts. AFTER we finish the Meetin¡¯, we can start on the Eatin¡¯. Please think about some of your ideas and concerns and let¡¯s get the ball rolling. NOTHING will be decided, but a lot can be discussed. Maybe we can do this same format every few months and have a fun Reunion for everyone. We will have seating for 25 or so. If more show up, we can adjust. Packsaddle BBQ WEDNESDAY August 23 11:00am Please invite the ones that are not on this list, I know that I have forgotten someone. Mickey

Finally! A little rain. 2
Finally, we got a little rain, about 1/10th of an inch, this afternoon. There was a lot of wind before the rain and at the beginning of the rain. Once the wind died down, it was quite pleasant to hear and watch the rain. Thank you, Lord. Our old dry land could sure use it and a lot more. John T. Herman 210-396-1974 Live simply. We are now 1% ERS 3
Just saw this and thought it was worth consideration. INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE 1% ERS: 99% of people born between 1930 and 1946 (GLOBALLY) are now dead. If you were born in this time span, your ages range between 77 and 93 years old (a 16-year age span) and you are one of the rare surviving one-percenters. You are the smallest group of children born since the early 1900's. You are the last generation, climbing out of the depression, who can remember the winds of war and the impact of a world at war that rattled the structure of our daily lives for years. You are the last to remember ration books for everything from tea to sugar to shoes. You saved tin foil and poured fried meat fat into cans. You can remember milk being delivered to your house early in the morning and placed in the "milk box" at the front door. Discipline was enforced by parents and teachers. You are the last generation who spent childhood without television and instead, you ¡°imagined¡± what you heard on the radio. With no TV, you spent your childhood "playing outside". There was no city playground for kids. The lack of television in your early years meant that you had little real understanding of what the world was like. We got ¡°black-and-white¡± TV in the late 50s that had 3 stations and no remote. Telephones (if you had one) were one to a house and hung on the wall in the kitchen (who cares about privacy). Computers were called calculators; they were hand-cranked. Typewriters were driven by pounding fingers, throwing the carriage, and changing the ribbon. INTERNET and GOOGLE were words that did not exist. Newspapers and magazines were written for adults and your dad would give you the comic pages after he read the news. The news was broadcast on your radio in the evening. The radio network gradually expanded from 3 stations to thousands. New highways would bring jobs and mobility. Most highways were 2 lanes and there were no Motorways. You went downtown to shop. You walked to school. Your parents were suddenly free from the confines of the depression and the war, and they threw themselves into working hard to make a living for their families. You weren't neglected, but you weren't today's all-consuming family focus. They were glad you played by yourselves. They were busy discovering the postwar world. You entered a world of overflowing plenty and opportunity; a world where you were welcomed, enjoyed yourselves. You felt secure in your future, although the depression and poverty were deeply remembered. Polio was still a crippler. Everyone knew someone who had it. You are the last generation to experience an interlude when there were no threats to our country. World War 2 was over and the cold war, terrorism, global warming, and perpetual economic insecurity had yet to haunt life. Only your generation can remember a time after WW2 when our world was secure and full of bright promise and plenty. You grew up at the best possible time, a time when the world was getting better. More than 99% of you are retired now, and you should feel privileged to have "lived in the best of times!" If you have already reached the age of 77 years old, you have outlived 99% of all the other people on this planet. You are a 1% 'er! San Angelo Visit
If all goes as planned, I hope to come to San Angelo on Friday, August 25th, spend the night there and then go on up to Abilene on Saturday to attend my sister's birthday party to celebrate her 80th birthday. I will come back to San Angelo on Saturday after the party and then head out Sunday morning to go home. I will, most probably, be eating supper at the Dunbar on Friday evening, about 6:00 PM, in case anyone might want to come by and visit a little while. I will be spending the two nights at my nephew's house on the far east end of Preusser St. like I normally do. No trips out to Water Valley this time around. John T. Herman 210-396-1974 Live simply. Ron Perry 12
Please keep Ron and Vivian lifted up in prayer. Ron was taken from San Angelo to Austin by ambulance a couple of days ago. Ron had surgery this morning on liver related issues. It seems to be a blockage or stone. He did the surgery good this morning, but follow up surgery will be probably Monday. Vivian is with him. Mickey

Time to check in 8
With everyone concerned about surviving this heat, I think it is time for everyone to check in and let all of us "wonderers" know how you are doing. So far, Sandy and I are staying inside as much as possible except for my little forays out to do little tasks to break up the boredom. We have had to rearrange our dog walking schedule so we don't have to get us and our old dog out in the heat any more than necessary. Our old dog does not seem to mind as she is always ready to take us for a walk. How about the rest of you??? -- John T. Herman 210-396-1974

Members 5
Members, Someone was wondering how many members we have on this site. There are 38 members registered, but that doesn¡¯t necessarily mean there are still that many on the site anymore. If you know anyone that might want to join just have them email me at register@.... I¡¯ll need their name and email address and I will send them an invite. Thanks, Tim Moorman Administrator

What A Day... 4
What a day this has been. I must have cut down about a hundred oak trees all by myself. Of course, they were the ones in the yard that came up from the acorns that the squirrels planted and I was pushing the lawn mower. Since we had a bountiful crop of acorns last Fall, we have also had an abundance of the little trees coming up in the yard. Guess if I wasn't so lazy, I'd get some potting soil and start digging them out but then what would I do with them? John T. Herman 210-396-1974 Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. New addition. 5
Found this 1968 Seeburg jukebox in a garage that has been stored for years and non working, and years of dirt. I got her up and playing in a short time, but after 4 hours of serious cleaning, she looks pretty good and sounds remarkably well for time spent in slumber.
