I thought surely last evening there would have been a lot of fire works and such going on in San Angelo and it would make the national news. If my calendar serves me right, wasn't it exactly 60 years ago yesterday that we got to cross the stage and receive our diplomas? I found it amusing and amazing when I checked my Handy Ref and saw that 1964 and 2024 were both leap years. Anyway, congratulations, Graduates, we made it sixty years and going strong. John T. Finally got'er done
Although it has been hot and quite humid here in Selma, TX, I finally got the pressure washer out and gave our front porch, sidewalk, drive way, front sidewalks, curbs and back patio a very thorough and much needed bath. We have two oak trees in the front yard, one on either side of the driveway so I needed to wait until all the acorns have dropped, the leaves have been collected and all the oak tassels have fallen before I attempt to get the pressure washing done. Now, I can sit on the front porch and watch the squirrels playing in the trees and not worry about that project. I guess it is a good thing I fired up the pressure washer to see if it worked since we have a work day at the church on Saturday and, guess what, we are going to be pressure washing all the concrete around the church. We usually have five or six men show up with their pressure washers so it makes it go pretty smooth and sure looks better once we are done. Now, to just rest up until Saturday. Oh, wait, I need to go to Lowe's to get some hose bib splitters for Saturday so two hoses can be run from each hose bib (faucet). John T. Herman 210-396-1974 Live simply. Love generously. Been enough mayhem in my back yard that nobody gets back there with a chain saw without me being there with an 8-gauge Magnum semiautomatic shotgun at his back. Today while I was cutting the grass in the back yard, I was treated to a very pretty view over the back fence looking towards the street.
I have contemplated many times cutting the two crepe myrtles down but I believe they have finally reached a level of maturity that will insure there staying in place for a while longer.
What do all y'all think?

Re: sharon
Sharon, Although I am not in San Angelo, I am, none the less, still doing well. We have been "promised" some rain for the last week or so but it seems that Houston and a few other places have taken it all. Looking forward to the 60th Reunion and seeing all our classmates. Hard to believe that in about 19 days we will have 60 years under our belts as graduates of SACHS. That's okay, though, I keep telling myself I am still a young man with more to learn in the years to come. Take care of yourself and let us hear from you (more often). John T. Re: sharon
Hear, hear! It¡¯ll always be North Concho to me, too. Besides the fact that the name is more descriptive, I¡¯m just generally against naming natural features after people. Now it can be argued that North Concho is not a natural lake, but that¡¯s true of all Texas lakes except Caddo, and that¡¯s half in Louisiana. Anyway, most of the names were given over 100 years ago, while this one happened in my lifetime. The other issue is when you name something after a person, presumably to honor them, you never know what might turn up down the line to make you regret that decision. Also, in this case, it was a renaming, which requires every map and reference to be updated, world-wide. Wonder what that cost? No, go ahead and name man-made structures or political entities after people all you want, but find an appropriate name for natural features.
OK, I¡¯m done ranting. Cheers, Roy |
Re: sharon
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI'm okay. R U OK? Read a book with a title kinda like that once. When we were doing battle drills aboard ship, a guy at each
station was wearing a phone (no gurls allowd in those days), and
periodically the captain? would say "all stations report", and a
dozen or so stations would say in prescribed? sequence, "Bridge,
aye". "SecConn aye". "After steering, aye". "Damage control, aye",
et cetera. If somebody didn't report, they were erased from the
board. Nobody there could talk anymore, ever again. Remember, this was a drill. But I'm OK, except I'm not in San Angelo. How about y'all? All
stations report to Captain Sharon. On 5/4/2024 10:22 AM, sharon cenky via
