Re: sharon
Sharon, Although I am not in San Angelo, I am, none the less, still doing well. We have been "promised" some rain for the last week or so but it seems that Houston and a few other places have taken it all. Looking forward to the 60th Reunion and seeing all our classmates. Hard to believe that in about 19 days we will have 60 years under our belts as graduates of SACHS. That's okay, though, I keep telling myself I am still a young man with more to learn in the years to come. Take care of yourself and let us hear from you (more often). John T. Re: sharon
Hear, hear! It¡¯ll always be North Concho to me, too. Besides the fact that the name is more descriptive, I¡¯m just generally against naming natural features after people. Now it can be argued that North Concho is not a natural lake, but that¡¯s true of all Texas lakes except Caddo, and that¡¯s half in Louisiana. Anyway, most of the names were given over 100 years ago, while this one happened in my lifetime. The other issue is when you name something after a person, presumably to honor them, you never know what might turn up down the line to make you regret that decision. Also, in this case, it was a renaming, which requires every map and reference to be updated, world-wide. Wonder what that cost? No, go ahead and name man-made structures or political entities after people all you want, but find an appropriate name for natural features.
OK, I¡¯m done ranting. Cheers, Roy |
Re: sharon
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI'm okay. R U OK? Read a book with a title kinda like that once. When we were doing battle drills aboard ship, a guy at each
station was wearing a phone (no gurls allowd in those days), and
periodically the captain? would say "all stations report", and a
dozen or so stations would say in prescribed? sequence, "Bridge,
aye". "SecConn aye". "After steering, aye". "Damage control, aye",
et cetera. If somebody didn't report, they were erased from the
board. Nobody there could talk anymore, ever again. Remember, this was a drill. But I'm OK, except I'm not in San Angelo. How about y'all? All
stations report to Captain Sharon. On 5/4/2024 10:22 AM, sharon cenky via

Hi Sharon, thanks for asking. I'm very hopeful that you are getting along well and I know you are missing your lifelong partner. Texas is getting a bit of rainy weather and we can use it.? I still yearn to see North Concho lake full again...I know it's going under a different name these days,? but I still live in the memories of the fun we had back in our youth. There's plans for a 60 year reunion in October..hope you will be present.? I think of you often as I am sure others do as well,? have a nice weekend.? |

Interesting Church Work Day
Saturday was our regularly scheduled work day at the church and several "old guys" showed up. I had already put the word out that we would be converting three 4-lamp, 4' fluorescent light fixtures from T12 (big diameter bulb) to T8 (small diameter bulb) which requires that the lights had to be taken apart down to the metal shell and then rebuilt, including the "tombstones" that are the actual bulb holders at either end of the bulbs. Since these fixtures have been in use for quite some time, it is safer and easier to use new "tombstones" to facilitate the wiring from the new ballasts. The old "tombstones" are usually ready for replacement anyway as they become brittle with age and heat and can cause problems when you might need to change bulbs. Our original goal was to change out three fixtures but when we got the third one finished and turned on the lights, another light began to flicker pretty badly. We moved the ladder to the fourth fixture and took it apart as well and rebuilt it. At least, now all four light fixtures work perfectly giving more light but using less power and the bulbs will last longer than the older ones. Now that I have bored you to tears, I just want to tell you one more thing. If you have fluorescent lights in your house and they use the bigger T12 bulbs, be aware that most of the bulb makers are gradually phasing out that size bulb. I have no idea how this will affect the price in the future but it is something to think about. If and when you may need to replace them, you can either get them "rebuilt" to accommodate the smaller diameter T8 bulb or have the fixture "rebuilt" to accommodate a T8 size LED bulb. Okay, now you can get that nap you have been wanting since you opened this email. ?John T. Herman 210-396-1974 Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. Unusual Date
Did you happen to notice the way today's date appears, 04/14/24. Now, don't start looking for 34 to appear any time soon. By the way, I guess we owe February a "thank you". If it wasn't for the extra day in February, we would have had to contend with a "Friday the thirteenth" this past Friday. For me, Friday the thirteenth has not been such an unlucky day. Twice I received news of a new job offer on that date and, oh, yes, one of my divorces came on that day also. Um, now I wonder what good luck might have come my way if it wasn't for that extra day in February. John T. Herman 210-396-1974 Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Since we had such cloud cover yesterday during the eclipse, when I got up this morning, I thought the eclipse had returned.
As it turned out, it was just more cloud cover but we did get a very brief rain shower.
For our eclipse adventure yesterday, I went out on the back porch and saw that it had gotten dark enough that all of the solar lights on the fence
had turned on.
After that excitement, I went back in and watched it on TV.
