Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters. 26
Out club has a 55 foot tower on top of a high point in our county. We are in the process of upgrading the feedline and replacing the antennas. Our coverage for the current 2M/440 antenna at the top was excellent before we had feedline issues. We also currently have a Comet CX-333 tri band antenna side mounted on the tower. The base of CX-333 about 16 feet below the top of the tower. It has had decent coverage on 220 in the past but has recently degraded the last year. It will only be used for 220 operations. The reason for the tri-bander is that it has served as a backup antenna for the top 2M/440 currently and in the past due to antenna / feedline failure. The club is adding a GMRS repeater to the site and the main question I have is, what is everyone¡¯s opinion of side is mounting a Comet CA-712EFC directly opposite the 220 Tri bander. Both standoffs are around 2.5 ¨C 3 feet off each side of the tower. Also is there a rule of thumb on how much separation I should have from the top of the two side mounted antennas to the base of the top antenna? This is what I have for the install: Top of Tower - Comet GP-9 GP9N 2m/440 fed with 7/8 superflex ¨C 25 watts Side Mount - Comet CX-333 (Used for 220Mhz) fed with 7/8 superflex ¨C 10 watts Side Mount - Comet CA-712EFC (GMRS) Fed with ? superflex ¨C 25 watts Thank you for your time!

THREAT TO 222-225MHz Spectrum Getting Worse with additional licenses issued outside of California 18
I know I've written about this before but since then the threat has increased to the 222-225MHz Spectrum. The FCC has issued additional licenses to the Company "Chaos" with high powered Radar Testing in the spectrum. The first experiences we had with this was in Hermosa Beach area of Los Angeles County. Now they have new test beds in the following areas: FCC licenses issued to Chaos Industries. Please see the attached documents. WY9XPE - (222-225 MHz) Camp Atterbury, Indiana WY9XYL - (222-225 MHz) MCAS Yuma, Arizona WY9XYM - (222-225) MHz) Irwin National training Center, California WY9XWP - (228-233) MHz Desert Center, Riverside, California Apparently, these are in addition to their existing licenses, These licenses are footnoted that they must cease immediately if they cause interference to Amateur Radio operations. The FCC continues to authorize non amateur radio operations in amateur radio spectrum. If operations are of a temporary, proof-of-concept nature only and in low population areas, perhaps we could just wait. The problem it brings is precedence, which is how many mechanisms of law work. The precedent set giving way to a case being made that they have greater need for the spectrum than we, and an opportunity for the FCC to auction or otherwise reallocate the band. The problem we have, how do we 'defend' against this in these sparse population areas where 220 amateur activity is very low? We can mobilize folks as we have in our local area, but there's a whole interior of the nation where overall use is light. Especially for an off-beaten-path band like 220. This is a strategic threat requiring a strategic response. Remember, these transmitters may not be near you, however if a repeater input can see the transmitter its ability to receive a weak signal is degraded. I urge ALL repeater owners to look at these locations, if in anyway you know repeater owners who may be impacted make them aware of this threat. Today its the 220 MHz spectrum, tomorrow its 1.2GHz, 420-450MHz spectrum or even 144-148MHz, don't think companies like Choas are not thinking of that? Remember, its not a Right, its a Privilege that we can use the spectrum we do and we will have to fight to keep it. Thank you, John N. FS: thin client computers for DOS radio programming 7
I recently sold five of these and found I still have a bunch more of these little machines. I have one myself I use with freeDoS on a USB thumb drive with all the DOS based RSS, GE, etc and it just works. The thumb drive files can be accessed on a newer machine where you can backup or add more DOS programs. These thin-clients have a REAL serial port. And are 12V! Setup isn't hard or seriously involved. I'll post a YouTube video and send a link to buyers. Instead of back and fourth on shipping, $45 for medium flat rate box Priority Mail, CONUS. Contact for AK, HI, and international. Computer only.

Multi-Bay Folded Dipole for 70cm 5
Greetings everyone, I am new to the group and looking for help on constructing a multi-bay 70cm antenna for our repeater. I am thinking of using copper pipe for durability. I have looked in all of my antenna books but they are not helping. Does anyone have plans or information for such a project that would get me started. Thanks in advance, Dale N3DJO

Do these cans look normal inside? 4
These cans have a ticket they left Sinclair in 2015. Supposedly new old stock. Do they look normal inside for the age? Looks like condensation was a thing inside there at some point for the spottiness. The dark & black streaks are what has me wondering. I see some on the side walls. Also the end of the plunger tube looks black..could be solder flux? I was half tempted to take them apart to inspect more but I'm in no hurry. So I thought I'd ask the pros. I uploaded them to a folder on my qsl page. So they can be viewed in better resolution. Labeled them accordingly. https://qsl.net/n/n4fox//cans/

2175 Hz Voting tone encoder Board 12
Hi to All, I am replacing a Failling MSR2000 VHF 100 Watts by a Tait T800 series 2 VHF 100 Watts. The receiver of the MSR is driving a Sectra-Tac board in a voting system. The new Tait Repeater as a RX Line out like the MSR but no 2175 Hz encoder. Before I take out the encoder board in the MSR and fit it in the T800... I was wondering if there is a aftermarket source for 2175 hz voting encoder board ? Or if any member did this modofication before? Best 73 Carl VA2CMB

F/S TPL PA6-1AE UHF amp 21

For Sale: Kenwood TKR-850-1 v.1 UHF repeater.
Selling the last Kenwood TKR-850-1 UHF repeater I have in the system. We are going to simulcasting so all repeaters needed a 10MHz reference input for the time base stability required to simulcast. As a result I have pulled non 10MHz reference input repeaters we had in service. This is the very last TKR-850 we were using and was used with an external controller however it does have internal control if desired. Not much more to say as it has worked well and been on the air over a decade. It is a version 1 that is tuned to the 447/442MHz band area right now. It is fully functional with power turned down to around 5 or 6 Watts at the present time. Rated at 25 Watts continuous duty, it has always driven an amplifier. $550 + actual shipping costs to your door CONUS 48. PayPal or Zelle preferred. Thanks for looking.

Quantar Extender Cables 12
Are there extender cards or cables to aid in Quantar module troubleshooting and tuning? Other than some content on the W9CR website, which was very useful, I have not been able to find a thing. It seems like I may end up having to use a stripped down Quantar Chassis for this purpose. Thanks! Jeff KC8VFN

Help with out of range programming a Motorola GP300 11
I was recently given a pair of GP300 HTs and am trying to get them reprogrammed for some new hams in the area. I have the programmer and RSS and can download the codeplug. But, these are 398-443 MHz RX radios (P94YPC20C1) and won't allow me to put the Amateur repeater frequencies in. I've tried the Shift key trick when entering frequencies to no avail (have used this successfully on Radius and GM300 models). Even tried using a Hex editor and directions I found here to alter the ID bit associated with the model. Neither works. Any thoughts on what to try next? ron

Allstar Running on a Dell Thin Client 2
I am looking to network a UHF repeater into a local Allstar network using a Dell thin client. Whilst I understand that remote shut down of the repeater can be achieved within the software, I also need the ability to shut down a second unconnected transmitter This requires a pair of ¡®closing relay contacts¡¯ I really these too would be operated by DTMF Any ideas please? Echo on the FM of my mmdvm
Hello everyone, I'm using the bi7jta card for GM340 repeaters. It works well on FM. I have two problems: I get echo when users speak, as if they're using an echo microphone. The second problem is Beacons are leaving intermittently, very close together, and trigger the CTCSS on my radios. Do you have any ideas? Thanks in advance. F4GIX
