Really a shame.
The TKR-851 will have ZERO issues running at 3 watts to drive that amp. The PA6-1AE should be adjustable to and stable at 70w. I second that the TKR-851 will adequately provide a stable low drive output appropriate for your amplifier. You have everything you need. On Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 6:10?PM Mike via <prcradio=[email protected]> wrote:

All Chad needs do is drop the TKR down to 1 watt and start
there...

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý??????????????? You guys convinced me to keep the TPL, so it is going to be put in service with the TK851. ? Some things I have never tried before make me nervous to try, sounds like I have gotten good advice off this list. ? Thanks all. ? Chad ? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNot sure what you budget is, I think you said UHF, have you looked at Bridgecom website? They have new Henry Radio Manufacture Amps. I'll link the UHF for easy lookup. Kory W4RZ On 2025-04-03 19:49, Chad Nelson wrote: Hi, I will hang onto that TPL amp at this point. I was trying to find |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYeah, I figured the TPLM would work good for my purposes here so I'm gonna hang onto that, but there really isn't any need to sell one to buy another one that's almost kind of silly.Chad Nelson WI9HF/WRPL979 Janesville Wisconsin 608-754-8671 Send from my spectrum iPhone 16. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI fully agree, you would basically just be changing out labels with the name on it. I am just keeping an eye out for a good deal for a spare for our system. I do not want to buy another brand new one just have it sit on the shelf LOL. Kory On 2025-04-03 20:05, Chad Nelson wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSounds like a plan. I have a few other repeaters around that are GMRS or back ups. But if you want to continue this thread, you can email me on my QRZ email, WI9HF. That loss is dissipated as heat.

You may have issues if the connectors are soldered on. Glenn WB4UIV On 4/3/2025 7:10 PM, Mike via groups.io wrote:

Not a problem with 100w into the cable and only 30w dissipated over 18ft of RG-142, and the connectors would be usually be heatsinked to a chassis of some sort anyway. Belden RG-142 is rated up to 1,100w at 400MHz where it would eventually reach 200deg C (392deg F) and possibly melt 60/40 solder depending on connector heatsinking. I wish I had an amplifier to test that some day.? |
Chad,
I think you have made the correct decision.
?
Glad Ken chimed in also. Ken is a Kenwood dealer and also sold TPL amps back in the day. I have purchased several TKR-750 and 850's from him and a few TPL amps as well.
?
Do like Ken suggested, start at 1 watt and bump it up until you are where you want to be for power out. Once you get to that point, have your guy look at it on a spectrum analyzer to make sure the amp is happy.

Again, if you are REALLY worried, the TPLs were designed to be 50ohms between stages so you can bypass the PREdriverr and put higher RF into the remaining stages...this would?allow the Kenwood to run at 10watts?and you have a stable output... But whatever works for? you.... Later Chris WB5ITT On Fri, Apr 4, 2025 at 7:27?PM Chad Nelson via <chad.nelson71=[email protected]> wrote:
