6 meter repeater..
10
Hi People: I'm looking for information on modifing either a tube final GE Master, or a mobile Canadian GE MC74XC833A (100 watt mobile, Master II I think?)for repeater use. Which would be the better choice? I also have a Mitrek...would this be better for use in a repeater? This is my first 6 meter repeater project, and I would like to hear any thoughts on what to use. I have DB products duplexor (6 can helical resonator, notch) to use and is all tuned up and ready to go. All I have to figure out is what radio to use and how to modify it for duplex operation. Thanks kindly, Tedd Doda CET packet va3sed@va3sed e-mail lazer@...

Cushman CE6A service monitor?
3
Greetings, I have a Cushman CE6A service monitor which would prove extremely helpful in my repeater projects. Unfortunately, my service monitor is in need of repair. Additionally, I do not have any kind of manuals for the CE6A. Does anyone know of a reputable company that could restore my CE6A to operation, align to factory spec, and possibly also provide me with at least an operator or users manual? The symptoms are that the service monitor loses lock on highband VHF and is completely unusable. Additionally, it works very poorly on the other bands.... Very poor RX sensitivity, low RF output.... etc. I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks very much. 73, de Gary, W7NTF

UHF Motorola Mitrek mobile?
12
Greetings, This is Gary, W7N TF, in Spanaway, WA. I have two UHF Motorola Mitrek mobiles that I was going to convert to repeater service before I got ahold of my GE Mastr-II mobiles. I may still go ahead and finish the project and keep a Mitrek for a backup repeater. Has anyone successfully converted a UHF Mitrek mobile for repeater service? Was it difficult, and what problems did you encounter? I bought a pair of rocks for one of my UHF repeater frequencies and found that one of the two Mitreks fails to transmit... The other transmits and receives ok, but still requires an alignment. I am looking for TXA, RXA, COS, and PTT connections in order to interface with my LinkComm RLC-2A or RLC-1 Plus controllers. I'd like to hear from you... Thanks. 73, de Gary, W7NTF

GE Custom MVP Rptr Mods
I understand this model converts very easily to a repeater. Has someone published modifications for use as a repeater? Nothing fancy, just a simple COR would do. 73's, Randy, WB0VHB

To answer Bob's question about getting a list of all the subscribers: YES! On your member center page ( go to <http://www.onelist.com/ and login, then click the "Member center" button) click on the USS_Chicago link under "List Center" then select "Member Profiles". Finally, run outside and rotate the tires on your car.... No wait, skip that last step... This should give you a list of all the users on the list (24 at last count) Joe

6m solid state transmitter strip?
I apologize for this being a bit off-topic, however repeater builders should have a bunch of goodies laying around which would serve my purpose nicely. I'm putting together a six meter propagation beacon here in Washington State, and am in need of a solid state transmitter strip that can be keyed for continuous beacon service. I want to run straight CW, simply an on/off carrier keyed at about 8-10wpm... I am hoping for something in the 25-100w range, but am flexible. Can anyone spare something from their junk box? 12vdc operation and a schematic or other associated documentation would be a plus. I plan to put the beacon transmitter on the low end of six meters, below 50.1, frequency yet to be determined. I hope to mount the tranmitter strip and memory keyer on a blank 19" rack panel. Please let me know what you have and your terms. Thanks in advance. 73, de Gary, W7NTF

VHF Antenna Design
5
I am on a fact finding mission, gathering information about the pros and cons of a particular antenna design/configuration. This antenna will be used on a VHF repeater (Monteagle, TN.) We need near 360 degree coverage. The repeater is at 2300 feet HAMSL if downtilt should be a consideration. I have narrowed the choices down to either an 8 or a 16 element dipole array. 1) Would a folded dipole have more gain than a "gamma matched" dipole? I was told that a folded dipole has 1.5dB more gain than a standard dipole. 2) What is the best way to orient the antennas on the tower (Rhon 25G?) a) put them all on the same side of the tower and point them toward the tower... b) put them in two groups of 8, back to back... c) start at the top and mount them down the tower, turning each 90 degrees from the previous... d) put them in two groups of 8, first group of 8 over the second group of 8, point the lower group of 8 180 degrees of the first 8? 3) Has anyone had any experience with the Maxrad 4 element dipole array? Or would it perform like the old cushcraft 4 element dipole? All comments welcome! -Terry NQ4Y http://www.qsl.net/nq4y/

GE Ranger for 6 meters?
3
Hi people: Thanks for all the replies about the Mitreks and Master II's. While at the Hamilton, Ontario fleamarket, a friend found some GE Rangers on 6 meters. They come with the 990 control head, and all 64 memories programmed. We can get them for $150 CDN ($100 USD). Has anyone tried these for repeater use? I would be worried about the PLL noise, but don't know if it would be a concern. Would it be possible to use the internal CTCSS (PL) encode AND decode at the same time (again, for repeater use). Thanks for any input. Tedd Doda CET packet va3sed@va3sed e-mail lazer@...

GE Ranger for 6 meters? [update]
6
I was talking to a GE service rep., and he also said that 2 are required because of the PLL only doing TX or RX at one time. I think so. Supposedly, the 2 people that are selling them got a skid load of them from a local police force that moved to 800 Mhz trunking. If anyone is interested, I'll see what his policy is about shipping them (they are currently in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada). One of the things that Reg (the GE tech) said was that the Ranger has absolutely NO front end filtering. He had a Ranger in his car for 6 meters, and noticed signals on the radio that weren't on the repeater. He then concluded that the front end must have been getting overloaded by all the baby monitors and 49 Mhz cordless phones. He then installed a GE Delta, and all the noise disappeared. Is this a common problem with the Rangers? Tedd Doda CET packet va3sed@va3sed e-mail lazer@...

Repeater list server comments??
Hi Gang, A bunch of you that are subscribed here are also subscribed to the Repeater list at onelist. I am also subscribed to it and the GE list at qth.net. I received this attached email from the GE server. I thought the comments in this attachment from the co-moderator of that list were "interesting" to say the least. I am now not certain what the main interest and objective is on that list...?? Please be it known that this list is NOT biased for GE or Motorola or any other brand, and since this list is for repeater builders, repeater discussion IS the primary tone of interest here. The original email was received on March 04 1999, Today...... Kevin Custer, Repeater-Builder List Owner.
