I Have a few questions on repeater Antennas
2
I am looking for some help with antenna questions for my GE MASTRII/RANGR Repeater What is the consensus on 4 bay dipole arrays for repeater antennas ? I have looked into the coverage maps with both the 4 bay dipole array and an Omni stick. The closest repeater on the same pair is 50 miles away. The idea of going to the array was to place a null in the direction of the other system. According to my coverage maps it cleans up and expands my coverage going to the Omni. Now for the second part of the question. The 4 bay array antenna have a phased harness can I put three of them at the same level and the fourth antenna as a reinforcement in the direction I want ?? Currently the 4 antennas on the array are on the western leg pointing North and South my coverage is for no better word Terrible 7 miles away to the east I get an S4 , to the west 20 miles an S9 /Mike From The Heart of Spotsylvania County, Va. 146.775 - / 203.5 442.850 + / 203.5 [[ MICHAE~1.VCF : 33 in winmail.dat ]]

Large Heat Shrink
I was asked to post this again, so here goes.... Hello All, I recently received several requests from people on the list wanting to obtain the large heat shrink I use to seal the Comet and Diamond fiberglass antenna joints with. This stuff is great for sealing connectors, antenna joints, covering shovel and sledge hammer handles and covering tool handles like large Crescent wrenches. This shrink has an inert sealant that melts as the heat is applied for shrinking. This creates a good (won't leak if it was drug across the Atlantic) seal. Well maybe not that good......but damn good. It is available from Jerry Conn Associates Inc. They are located in Chambersburg Penna. The manufacturer is CANUSA. Pronounced canoosa. The available sizes (unshrunk of course) are indicated by the model number. Example: Part number; CFTV-400 is .4" (that's point 4 inches) CFTV-1100 is 1.1" diameter CFTV-1300 is 1.3" diameter CFTV-2050 is 2.05" diameter and so on These come in a 4 foot length. I believe the shrink percentage is 50% of original, This is not fact however. I don't remember the spec. on shrinkage off hand... but it does shrink a lot. These are the available sizes: The ones with pricing are normally in stock. CFTV-400 CFTV-750 CFTV-1100 CFTV-1300 $5.16 CFTV-1700 $5.95 CFTV-2050 $11.41 CFTV-2750 These people have a $50.00 minimum order, so get together with a friend or two and place an order. They will sell directly to the public. The models listed without pricing are available through JCA, but are usually not stocked. If interested in purchasing, contact Tracy at Jerry Conn Associates. 1-(800) 233-7600 in PA 1-(800) 233-7370 out of PA 1-(717) 264-1547 Direct Line from anywhere. The CFTV-750 is great for RG-8/PL-259's or Type N connectors. In our business, we use a propane torch to shrink the tubing. It's wall thickness is very good, and not easily damaged by a little excess heat. You can actually catch it on fire and not damage it badly. It doesn't shrink well in windy conditions, (requires lots of propane) In severe wind I use MAPP gas as it gets burns hotter than propane, although this is usually not necessary. I have used this stuff for years and can attest to its quality if installed properly. There are other cheaper brands of this stuff than CANUSA , but (in two words) they suck. There is no equivalent. I tried them all. Here is a pix of the stuff we use in the catv industry. [Image] They also have a good quality Self Amalgamating Tape that is much better for covering connections than Black Tape. Astron RS-12 Schematic
3
Does anyone have a schematic for an Astron RS-12A? A person emailed me directly and ask for a copy which I could not help with. If you do, can you scan it and email it to me. Required size is approximately 900 high by 600 wide so it will print out on a common sheet of paper when printed. Image file size should be no greater than 100k (see http://www.kuggie.com/rbtip/rs20a.html ) If you have a copy of the schematic and have a scanner, I will give you pointers on how to scan the image and make a nice printable copy that doesn't require a lot of size. Thanks, Kevin

[REPEATERS] Repeater Builder List Server
Hello Chris and All, My comments to Chris' opinions. "CHRISTOPHER W. (Chris) BOONE" wrote: You are allowed to disagree....doesn't mean you're right. Well some people who subscribe through Juno and other non html based email systems can't receive html, images, and attachments. I am NOT discriminating. They themselves are.. if they choose to use this type email system. This is THEIR choice not mine. (BTW My page states SHOULD NOT .....not DO NOT.) Should not is a suggestion, Do not is discrimination. I do not feel my list is duplication. Well.... the server I use DOES allow it. I conversed with the technical team before I started this list. They had no problem. Myself and others have sent pix and html through the server. I did not hear anyone complain. If people would not have wanted or or liked this style mailer, WHY do I have 62 subscribers in a mere 6 days? You are missing the point. What can I say?? You know your self that running a mail server is work. I am not twisting anyone's arm to join. If this mail server helps one person understand something about repeaters, I'll feel better. Another thing on Wasting the servers resources, The server I use does NOT store the actual images and does NOT store the messages indefinitely. That's why you should not join in the Digest mode. So... if a person emails a couple of words and a picture to help some understand a problem, what is then actually stored, (and tying up system resources?) not much. Certainly a whole lot less than a thousand word letter. I know myself that if I had a picture to send along with an explanation, the person on the other end would have understood the matter completely, and subsequent emailings would have been unnecessary. Example: The deemphasis circuit, through a resistor and a cap to ground. A small gif would eliminate any question. Another point is the use of HTML in an email. This list I run allows the use of html based email, and is another reason I started it. You are bashing the use of images, or forwarding a web page in an email posting, But you don't allow it on YOUR list. I believe you exact words are "NO FILE ATTACHMENTS allowed..." now who's discriminating? The use of html based email allows the use of emphasis on lettering and so forth. Maybe they didn't like yours? Oh well.... Thank you...... Kevin PS, You ARE welcome to join. http://www.kuggie.com/rbtip/onelist.html

List server problems
Many of you who have just joined the server had some trouble subscribing. This message I am forwarding pertains to the situation. This message originated from the Onelist Team and has not been edited for content. This message was directed to me, the list owner. -------------------------------------------------- Hello, There was a glitch in the ONElist system from Friday evening to Saturday morning. This only affected people who tried to create lists and who subscribed to existing lists. When someone subscribed to a list, they were set to No Post, which means that they couldn't post to the list. Many people also had difficulty creating new lists. Both problems have been fixed. All subscriptions that had No Post set because of this have been fixed. Everything should be back to normal, and moderators do not have to do anything for these fixes. We take pride in our high-level of service, and we sincerely apologize for this glitch. The ONElist Team -------------------------------------------- I actually knew about the problem before this report posted and I had fixed all subscriptions to be allowed to post and not be set for Digest mode. Onelist does try to be the best online email server available at no cost. If you really want to be set for Digest mode (all html and images stripped), or No post, then send an email to me stating this. I would like to take this time to thank all of you who have decided to join, especially those in the last two days. I started this list not quite a week ago and there are already 90 subscribers. This list will succeed, not because of me, but because of you! Kevin

VHF Mobile Micors

I have two 100 watt VHF Micors for sale. Originally got them for a repeater project that didn't materialize. Channel elements are included as well as the main harness. Also have some control heads somewhere too. These were removed from service in an ambulance service and are both very clean. $100 each for $ 175 for both OBO. Randy, WB0VHB

For Sale Posting, and a query.
3
Hello All, Because of the high rate of new users to this list (about 10 a day,) I am allowing the posting of "for sale" items twice a week instead of once a week. I will go back to once a week once the list sub rate slows down. I will let you know when (if) that happens. If you have for sale items please post again. Welcome, all you new subscribers. There are now 100 subs to this list. I also have a want. I would like a list of common terminology used in repeater service, and an explanation. Things like Ptt, Cos, PL, Channel Guard, to even more advanced things like BpBr, Desensitization, Duplexing and the such. Please email your Term and well written explanation of one or as many of these as you like. You are not limited to the ones suggested. Submit all to me directly so I can start to assemble them in an orderly fashion. These will be posted on the RBTIP site. General credit will be given to the contributing volunteers. Thanks in advance. Kevin Custer W3KKC List Owner

wanted / Query
2
A couple of things, First I'm looking for a schematic of a Power Supply for a Cushman 4000. Perhaps someone could point me to a source of service manuals etc.. Secondly further to the recent discussion of hardwire verses RF trunking, is anyone exploring trunking via the internet? We are presently trunking through a Satellite ( www.iparn.ca ) but with the recent flurry of activity online, can anyone point me in the direction of sites that are experimenting with this.. Thanks Ken VO1ST
