Astro Spectra programming help
2
Hello Group, I thought this task would be easy. But the more I delve into the programming the more confused I become. Here is my situation. *Radio* Astro Spectra-T04KLF9PW4AN (1 meg 2.5 kHz) I don't believe this to be a Spectra+ *Control Head* W4 Fully connected to transceiver Power cable also connected. All cables connected as when radio was in vehicle. *Computer* Win 7, 32 bit laptop with one USB 1 port and 9 pin serial port. *Motorola RIB* I have a real Motorola RIB. DO I REQUIRE IT? *Programming Cable* DO I REQUIRE A RIBLESS CABLE? What cable # and where do I connect radio end? With control head cable connected to radio I have one 25 pin female connector between the handle on the radio. Is the programming cable connected to that or does it connect to control head? *Programming Software* My information tells me that I require CPS 5.02.xx or 5.03.00 . I see the CPS is readily available but if some good hearted soul could mail me the CPS (if it's legal) I'd be happy to reimburse time and postage. I'm tearing my hair out and I only plan on programming six or seven VHF NB repeater fxs. and a few "Talkaround" channels. Appreciate any and all help. Tim Hardy AE7TH Vashon Is. Wa.

Kenwood KMC35 Microphone Mod to Improve Audio

At least on the TKX90 mobile radios, removal of chip cap C10 (0.068MF) adds more highs to give more crispness, less muffled voice audio. This is located on the mike PC board with it's location marked. John

I bought a 510 at a hamfest...decent price ... for my repeater. Anyway, I cleaned it up and put it back together.... 181Mhz resonance. Tried changing some of the vertical elements... still no good! I got a diagram for a 510HM and it's not even close. Anyone have any info???? This thing has 3 main elements, with one of them coming apart to make it 4. NH6FU

Pentagrid converter

Hi all, This is a type of tube (electronic valve) that some of the old-timers may remember. This is a first for me. Some of the old receivers out of the 1930's-ish used them (about a century ago). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentagrid_converter - Regards, Karl Shoemaker To contact me, please visit SRG's web site at http://www.srgclub.org for the current email address.

Internet provision at a remote repeater site?
13
I am the keeper of GB3VS a UHF repeater in the UK .it operates using the ARCOM 210 controller ..which has 2 spare channels I am considering connecting it into the Allstar network but the site has no internet. We are a small group with limited resources so a a mobile SIM is not really an option. My home QTH is approx 500M from the repeater site. I am therefore looking at how I might extend a data link from my home to the site ? Alternatively link the repeater raw audio ( without callsign, time announcements etc) to my home QTH where it could routed into my hotspot Raspberry Pi. I am sure that someone must have attempted this at some stage?

Future programming of Astro Spectra T04KLF9PW4AN W9 head
2
Hello Group, Hoping to clear up my confusion. From my research I see that CPS 5.03 is best although 5.02 can be used. I do have Astro Spectra CPS 11.00.01. I can't find any information on this CPS. Is it usable. (really high ver.!) My goal is to program several narrow band channels. Modulation will be analog. 146.6875 (out), 146.0875 (in) Repeater will be NB analog with PL squelch and rpt. ID. No digital, just simple. I plan to use a win 7 32 bit laptop. I do have a Motorola RIB (if required) but not sure about the cable to radio. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Regards, Tim Hardy AE7TH

Backup Battery for SLE 5700
5
Hi, I'm looking to see if anyone here has a preferred or a "go-to" type of battery that you use for your repeaters. I'm installing an SLR 5700 in a temperature-controlled room. How long do I need the repeater to run on batteries? That really depends on the price of each battery and how many I can afford to buy. I have been very satisfied with Echo-Worthy products on Amazon for other ham radio activities but not sure if they're the right choice for a repeater and also if they fit the SLR 5700 internal battery charger. Also, when you have batteries connected to a repeater for backup power, do you put any other components in between the battery and the repeater? Perhaps for overcharge or over-discharge protection:? All suggestions and recommendations would be appreciated. Best, Sepehr N6IRN

Kenwood NXR-800 Repeaters For Sale
3
I have several of these very cool, high spec, 1U repeaters available. If you are looking to get into NXDN or just want a high quality repeater this is something to consider. They will easily program into the ham band but will need some VCO tweaking. I can do that for you if you provide RX and TX frequencies. These are only 5W units although a power module swap could make this into a 25W-50W unit. $500 including shipping to lower 48. Thanks!

Are Quantar Modules Plug n Play?

Friends, I have a Quantar that has VHF R2 modules. I would like to try a VHF R1 Module in it. Seems unlikely, but is it as simple as powering down and swapping the modules? Thanks! Jeff KC8VFN

another RSS question...
15
Hi Folks. Has anyone used RSS in a virtual machine? I've got RSS 3.03.03, running in a 32bit WinXP under Oracle VirtualBox, inside Win10. I can read the station, it gets to 100% and then hangs, just the hourglass. I can read all of the Service data. I understand there may be issues when writing to the station, but I'll cross that proverbial bridge when I get there... Thanks. Don W7OXR

Manual Channel Selection on a Quantar Station

Channel selection on my MSF5000 station is easily accomplished from the from panel, but that does not seem to be the case on a Quantar. How is it done? Thanks! Jeff KC8VFN
