Yaesu FT-1802 and FT-1807 mobile repeater

I have a Yaesu FT-1802 and FT-1807. Would it be possible to make a mobile repeater with them?? If so can someone point me in the right direction with some links, videos.

Short Answer : YES...
However there is no cookbook instructions for what you're asking..?
I'm sure -without exception everyone here learned the hard way...
On their own....grit, experimentation, self study, perhaps a mentor, attending repeater parties, hanging at the county radio repair shop, and late nights studying any publication even close to the subject. after working a full time job and feeding kiddies.? Even Antenna catalogs. Motorola Tech publications. Mingling at hamfests like Dayton. Mouth shut, eyes and ears open..
?
Your application, "mobile repeater" is a bit vague.. As in the "biz..." a mobile repeater can be a? repeater in the trunk that cross bands from a HT to a distant contact (another repeater or dispatcher)? that because of your location or terrain the HT does not make the trip..
Common in law enforcement like sheriff''s that were on VHF low.. and they just don't make HT's that will get you out of a holler in west Virginia and cover the entire county, but a 5 watt UHF HT will get you back to your cruiser when you repeat with 50-160 watts on VHF LOW.
?
The second "mobile repeater" is one that is "go box" in design where you can set it up and operate for a while and even then quickly disassemble and shutdown or bug out. it is designed to move easily.
?
Saying all that.. If i were you, I'd search for a 1970's ARRL FM Repeater book.. maybe Ebay, maybe a .pdf somewhere on the internet, maybe someone here has one. I lost mine in a flood about 20 years ago..? Read it and digest it.. Yes it is out of date, but the concept is valid.. Here's one:?
A quick search shows the ARRL REPEATER books- that's? a pocket phone book of repeaters by state. No technical info there..outdated and moot.

Here's something else to look at beside the archive here.. -

I don't think anyone will disagree with me, but there may be others here that will add to this thread.

Hey Joe,

I would add on to what Larry said to say, since you are building a cross band repeater (based on the two radios you listed), I would instead buy one instead of build one.?? For the money, it's hard to beat an ICOM 2710, where you can also add a $2 DTMF board from China and control it (changing configuration remotely).?? You should be able to find the 2710 on eBay with some patience.
?
What test equipment do you already have??? You can setup the ICOM to be exactly Out=IN audio wise, and the response is very good (50-3000).?? But you need to set the deviation pots up to do this.? If you have a simple audio oscilloscope, and some other radios with discriminator audio output, you can compare input to output and do this, but it's easier with a service monitor.?? Remember though, the best test equipment in the world is no substitute for the one you have between your ears!?? You have to understand the what and the how it works to improve it!
?
So now you have a one way or two way cross band repeater.?? Good, but what do you want to do with it??? What problem are you trying to solve??? All I can say is be careful about linking it to someone else's repeater without explicit permission from the owner.?? Some repeater owners may not like or allow it.
