Bill,

Tracy, K0DOE, here. I built a dual band remote using a Kenwood TW-4000A. Works
great! I used the controller momentary outputs to 'strobe' (ground) the mic
up/down switch for frequency change. The voice module installed in the radio
outputs the frequency readback. Additional outputs from the controller could
be used to adjust power, change to vfo, etc. Guess it depends on your
controller what you will be able to do... Definitely helps to have frequency
readback! I know of several remotes that have been built without it and they
are always where their not supposed to be!

What controller do you have?
What radio do you have available for the remote?
What band(s) do you want to link to?

I'm using a PSX-SE on UHF, so I must have programmed it for the ham
band, but I don't recall how. I probably had to edit the hex data. If
you can't find anyone else who can do it, I'll research it more. It can
be done. :) *** One word of warning: The oscillator becomes
intermittent at low temperatures (<20-30). I don't recall how I got
around that problem either, but I think it involved adding or removing a
transistor. But when it works, it works very well.

I have software info on programming the Phoenix at
. This method requires and eeprom
programmer but the software allows you to edit the programming data
and generate the files needed by the eeprom programmer. I have
programmed several radios with this method.

Have you come across anyone with a similar setup that
will program the 2816's for the Mark V (TMX1000) UHF
radios? I have about 15 of these things, and hate taking
it to the shop for programming ($45 a shot!). The radio
is basically a UHF Phoenix SX with trunking, but will
program in conventional mode.

I can send you a .bin file for one of the ham eeproms
that they made up if you want to have a look?

Thanks,

You can try and import the bin file with the PSX200 app and see if it will
decode the data correctly. Documenation on my website details all the eeprom
data for the PSX and SX radios. If your radio uses one of these formats then
it should work. You can email me your bin file if you want me to have a
look. You will need an eeprom programmer that supports your chip in order
use this package. Let me know if you make any discoveries.
